First, let's start off with some news here on the show and then we'll get to some sports betting as well.
00:04
This is surrounding the upcoming Olympic Games here, which is really fascinating,
00:08
considering that we're talking about travel here, which is crucial to the upcoming Olympic Games.
00:14
There is a report that says the U.S. travel system is not ready for the upcoming Olympics in a couple of years.
00:20
The U.S. travel system, according to this report, inadequately equipped for the millions of visitors expected to visit the 2026 FIFA World Cup,
00:28
which is coming up right around the corner, and the 2028 Summer Olympics.
00:32
And this is a report from a nonprofit representing the travel industry.
00:36
It's called the U.S. Travel Association Report that says that 40 million people could potentially visit the U.S. for the World Cup,
00:43
the Olympics and Paralympics and even the Ryder Cup.
00:47
And they're not equipped necessarily to be able to handle this travel.
00:50
So, again, this is an independent report.
00:53
Sure, the U.S. will refute this. Naturally, keep an eye to see if the U.S. steps up their game in order to get things going in the right way.
00:59
As far as the college football playoff system is concerned, we're headed toward a change.
01:04
I don't think there's any question about that before we get to the beginning of the regular season and even into the summer.
01:08
The SEC and the Big Ten are going to introduce a new change to the seating for the 2025 playoffs next week.
01:13
No more automatic buys for conference champions.
01:18
So such as teams like Boise State, they don't get an automatic buy.
01:21
In a move that will require unanimous vote, the Big 12 and the ACC are going to battle this,
01:27
because they're going to want their teams getting automatic buys regardless of where they're ranked.
01:31
Needless to say, it does seem like the SEC and the Big Ten are driving the bus here.
01:35
Stay tuned.
01:36
National Football League Free Agency is set to begin, and we're going to see more money spent than ever before.
01:41
The salary cap is going up again in the range of $277.5 million, maybe up to $281 million.
01:48
Last year's cap, $255 million.
01:51
So, yes, it will increase by $30 million this year, $20 million the year before.
01:56
Buckle up, your favorite backup quarterback about to get paid, or two, or three.
02:01
That's the way it works in the NBA.
02:03
Some bad news for the Milwaukee Bucks.
02:05
It was reported this morning that Bobby Portis has been suspended for 25 games for the use of performance-enhancing drugs,
02:12
or basically what's called the anti-drug policy.
02:16
A statement has been released by Portis' agent, said that it was a mistake.
02:21
This is usually the M.O. for these players and these agents.
02:24
Toradol is the drug of choice, apparently here a recovery drug.
02:28
Portis will miss the next 25 games.
02:31
That puts him out essentially for the rest of the regular season, and maybe even the postseason in the NBA.
02:37
Meanwhile, last night the NBA did return.
02:39
There was one game, the Los Angeles Lakers.
02:41
12.5-point favorites, and they end up losing to the Charlotte Hornets.
02:45
What a huge disappointment here.
02:47
As you see the final score, 102-97 that the Hornets end up taking this one.
02:53
Sometimes this happens, first game out of the box in the NBA, and indeed it happened yesterday.
02:59
Not the best game for both Luka and LeBron, but needless to say, LeBron did his part.
03:04
Some others did not.
03:05
Luka LeBron talked about the loss after the game.
03:08
I think it was good.
03:10
Obviously, like I said, I'm getting a little time just to adjust to everything.
03:16
But I think it was fine today.
03:18
I think we had some good opportunities to make shots, but we didn't make any shots, especially me.
03:25
Just get a little time to get used to it.
03:28
Yeah, for sure.
03:30
That's going to be it every night.
03:32
Obviously, myself and Luka, we're going to draw so much attention.
03:37
Myself and Luka, we're going to get double teamed a lot.
03:41
Our guys have got to be recipients and be ready to shoot, drive, or pass.
03:47
It's an easy game.
03:50
In college hoops, the number four team in the country goes down last night.
03:54
Alabama has got to fix that defense, I think, before the NCAA tournament.
03:58
Missouri put 110 on them last night.
04:00
110-98 the final.
04:02
Mark Mitchell had 31 points for the Tigers.
04:05
Mizzou went on a 12-0 run.
04:07
They never looked back.
04:09
Needless to say, it was not a great defensive performance for Alabama.
04:15
Their head coach said that they could have used less turnovers as well.
04:19
We gave them 12 steals.
04:21
They scored off them.
04:23
We didn't do a great job prepping our guys for their pressure.
04:28
They do a good job of it.
04:30
You kind of look at some effort stuff.
04:33
I mean, Caleb Grill ends up with 25 points, but he had 10 rebounds.
04:37
I mean, he had more rebounds.
04:40
Nobody had more rebounds than him on our team.
04:43
Diabate is the only guy that had 10.
04:47
Nobody else had more than four.
04:49
For our entire front court to have three and two, Jaron had four.
04:57
For their guard to out-rebound us that bad,
05:00
I just think they wanted this game a little bit more tonight,
05:02
which is a little bit disappointing,
05:04
because we still had a lot riding on this game.
05:08
I mean, we were still in full control of our own destiny with the league championship.
05:12
Had we won out, we no longer are.
05:16
And Missouri deserves a lot of credit for it.
05:20
Yeah, I think right now Alabama has got to get things more figured out
05:24
because their state mates, Auburn, just keeps rolling.
05:28
Now, this was a tough game for them last night.
05:30
67-60, the Tigers end up winning.
05:33
Johnny Broom had 16 points, 13 rebounds.
05:36
Not the cleanest game in this one.
05:38
They couldn't hit a lot of threes,
05:39
but Bruce Pearl after the game talked about the defensive performance.
05:43
Sometimes you just got to play these type games to win.
05:45
Because Arkansas is so good defensively and such a great rim-protecting team.
05:51
Our offense left a lot to be desired tonight.
05:55
Our execution wasn't very good.
05:58
I don't think our shot selection was great.
06:00
When you only have 11 assists and 12 turnovers,
06:02
I don't think we shared it as well as we have been.
06:08
But our guys competed.
06:09
They did not let the fact that we weren't making shots and playing well offensively
06:15
affect their defense.
06:16
Holding Arkansas to 60 points is significant.
06:20
At the same time, I'm sure John, they had a bunch of good looks.
06:25
They had some open shots.
06:26
If they go down, it's a different outcome.
06:29
Big win also yesterday for St. John's.
06:32
They played DePaul.
06:33
They crushed them.
06:34
82-58 the final.
06:35
Also, Kentucky beats Vanderbilt.
06:37
Final, 82-61.
06:39
Those are some of the marquee games yesterday.
06:41
Now, over in the Big Ten, Zach Hicks had 19 points.
06:45
Penn State beat Nebraska.
06:46
Final score, 89-72, ending a seven-game skid.
06:50
West Virginia beats Cincinnati 62-59.
06:53
R.J. Davis and North Carolina beat NC State in that matchup, 97-73.
07:00
And Oregon, in a very close game, goes on the road and beats Iowa by two.
07:06
Some news from Major League Baseball this morning,
07:08
as the New York Yankees have just announced that they have extended
07:11
their manager, Aaron Boone, for the next two seasons.
07:14
So Boone Ball continues in the Bronx.
07:17
Meanwhile, John Means, recovering from Tommy John surgery,
07:20
once upon a time the Orioles' ace, is now pitching for the Guardians.
07:25
He has a team option for next season.
07:27
It's unknown as to whether or not he will pitch this season.
07:30
Also, the Nationals make a pitching move.
07:32
Lucas Sims signs with them to a one-year contract.
07:36
Also, the new-look A's, Sacramento, however you want to call it,
07:40
A's, looks like they're going to sign, according to The Athletic,
07:43
Lawrence Butler, who had a nice year last year,
07:45
22 home runs for them to a contract extension.
07:47
And would you believe that spring training does begin today?
07:51
305 Eastern out in Arizona, the two teams that are playing overseas,
07:54
they're going to go at it between the Cubs and Dodgers.
07:58
By the way, the starter today for the Cubs will be Cody Poteet,
08:01
and for the Dodgers it will be Yoshinobu Yamamoto.
08:05
And so spring training officially gets underway.
