My name is Simon Foster and I'm the Police and Crime Commissioner for the West Midlands.
00:13
The reason we're here today is because I'm pleased to announce investment that will ensure
00:18
four additional mobile speed camera vans in the West Midlands. That will double the number
00:23
of mobile speed camera vans that we have and that's going to significantly enhance the
00:28
ability of West Midlands Police to be able to prevent and tackle excess speed and also
00:34
the careless, dangerous and reckless driving in the West Midlands that can put lives at
01:39
So what I'm actually doing, I'm looking out for cars, vans, trucks, any vehicle that in
01:47
my opinion is actually above the speed limit. I can then bring the crosshairs on the screen
01:52
onto that vehicle, pull the trigger. I was wrong that time, they were only doing 32mph.
01:59
But that's mainly the job is watching out for vehicles I consider to be going up well
02:05
over the speed limit. Get the crosshairs on to them, get a good shot. The system does
02:13
everything else, puts the speed up. I am able to do vehicles going away but obviously vehicles
02:21
coming this way can block the view. So there was a car going down there but I looked to
02:26
see there was a van coming, I wouldn't have actually got the offence.
