00:00The Department of Transportation has approved an increase in the fare for LRT-1

00:05which will be implemented from April 2.

00:07How much will be the fare for the commuters?

00:10Let's find out from Bernard Ferrer, live. Bernard?

00:16Audrey, I'm here at LRT-1, Dr. Santos Station in Parañaque,

00:20the end part of the LRT-1 Cavite Extension.

00:24Since April 2, the minimum fare will be 20 pesos

00:28for the single journey ticket from the current 15 pesos.

00:36According to Light Rail Manila Corporation President Enrico Benepayo,

00:40the new fare scheme is lower than their rate for 2024

00:46and is equivalent to their 2022 application which is in accordance with the contract.

00:51Based on the decision of the Rail Regulatory Unit of the Department of Transportation,

00:56the boarding fare for LRT-1 will be increased to 16 pesos and 25 centavos

01:01while 1 peso and 47 centavos will be added per kilometer.

01:07Therefore, the minimum fare for the single journey ticket will be 20 pesos from 15 pesos.

01:12The fare from Dr. Santos Station to United Nations Station

01:16will be 35 pesos from 30 pesos.

01:20The fare from Dr. Santos Station to Fernando Junior Station

01:25will be 55 pesos from 45 pesos.

01:28Meanwhile, the fare for those using stored value deep cards

01:34will be 19 pesos, 34 pesos, and 52 pesos depending on the distance.

01:42Mr. Benepayo insisted that this is the second increase in the fare

01:46in the last 10 years even though LRT-1 Cavite Extension is now open.

01:51He said that continuous investment is needed for the maintenance, upgrade,

01:55and expansion of the system of transportation to remain effective

01:59and to save services such as the world-class transport system

02:06like Singapore and Japan.

02:16the 30 trains have been deployed

02:18and it will take 3 minutes and 55 seconds to reach each station.
