A Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) officer has denied claims that his promotion was linked to favourable investigation results for then-premier Datuk Seri Najib Razak.  Fikri Ab Rahim told the High Court on Tuesday (Feb 18) that his promotion was only determined by the-then MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Abu Kassim Mohamed. 00:13Fifty-year-old Fikri Abdul Rahim testified at the High Court on Tuesday that his promotion

00:18was only determined by the then-MACC Chief Commissioner Tansri Abu Qasim Mohamad.

00:26Fikri was one of the MACC investigating officers who went to the Riyadh Palace between November

00:3127 and November 29, 2015, to verify the authenticity of four donation letters from Saudi Arabia.

00:40The team was also tasked with recording statements from a Saudi prince, Prince Saud Abdulaziz

00:45Majid Al Saud, who was said to have signed the donation letters addressed to Najib.

00:51During cross-examination, Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Akram Gharib said Fikri's involvement

00:57in the Riyadh trip was part of a coordinated effort to provide a narrative that would favour

01:02Najib, implying that he was rewarded with a promotion for his role.

01:07In response, Fikri refuted the suggestion and said his career progression from grade

01:1241 to grade 54 had been accelerated even before the Saudi trip.

01:18On October 30 last year, Najib was ordered by the High Court to enter his defense on

01:23four counts of using his position to obtain RM2.28 billion in gratification from 1MDB's

01:31funds and 21 counts of money laundering involving the same amount.

01:35The hearing continues before Justice Colin Lawrence-Sekwera on Thursday.
