00:00Dr. Paul, did you expect this show to run into eight seasons?

00:09I did not.

00:10Listen, I knew it was successful after I remember our second or third episode from season one

00:18and we were trending on Twitter.

00:21So I knew at that point that we had something.

00:24So I got to tell you something.

00:26Season eight, can't believe it's been that long, but you know what's great about this

00:31season?

00:32Listen, you still have me doing a surgery, Debro doing a surgery, and some interesting

00:36patients, but the background's changed, the way we do interviews has changed, everything

00:42is a little bit more refreshed, and I'm actually more relaxed this season because after dealing

00:48with all these years with this guy, I finally just said, screw it, and I'm relaxed now.

00:53So I'm just sitting there enjoying the ride.

00:56But can you ever be relaxed in a surgery because you're like the miracle worker, right?

01:00People come to you because they're very distressed about their appearance and you seem to, from

01:05the neck up, you can really do magic.

01:08Well wait a minute now, when I say relaxed, I'm talking about with him, you know, after

01:12he's insulting me.

01:13Listen, when it comes to surgery, you always have to be calm, confident.

01:20You always have to be cautiously, I don't want to use the word nervous, but cautious

01:27because no matter how confident and no matter how great of a surgeon you are, you always

01:33have to be aware of certain situations that may or may not have the best outcomes.

01:38So you have to be great about all those things.

01:40Listen, the reason why, you're not going to have usually a UAE patient on botched.

01:46Now are they going to come see me?

01:48God willing, when I set practice back up here again, yes.

01:52But you know, they want to keep a low profile.

01:54You know, UAE patients are not going to want to be in a TV that's a show that's being seen

01:59in 165 different countries.

02:02That's where botched is aired.

02:03That's brilliant.

02:04Do you think that stigma attached to plastic surgeries has perhaps eroded after your series

02:11kind of normalized it in some ways, isn't it?

02:14No, I think it used to be like that many years ago where like, oh, keep it in the closet

02:20about plastic surgery.

02:23Now good plastic surgery is when you don't recognize it.

02:28So if your friend just looks good, healthy, great night's sleep, better makeup, their

02:32skin looks better, maybe it is plastic surgery.

02:36And so that's the whole goal of good plastic surgery.

02:39So not everyone has to see it.

02:42But since plastic surgery is around so much, people are, oh yeah, I got my nose done.

02:48I had a little liposuction.

02:50It's becoming a less taboo, less taboo.

02:54Absolutely.

02:55Of course, there's something called lunchtime lipo, which I was a bit, I was a bit concerned

03:00about that.

03:01I mean, that sounds way too easy.

03:02What do you have to say about all these quick, the gimmicks?

03:06Well, first of all, there's really nothing that's that quick.

03:10And anything where it says, you know, you have to do, you can do a surgery and go back

03:13to work immediately after lunchtime.

03:16That's more of a marketing gimmick.

03:18Remember, you have to be careful.

03:21You have to, as a red flag, be careful, things like that.

03:25But you have to make sure you're going to the right clinic, the right doctor, the right

03:29specialist that has a reputation and reviews and trained in it.

03:34You know, you got to do your research before you pick a doctor.

03:36Right.

03:37And how would you address all the concerns around the show saying that it kind of feeds

03:40into this vanity, perhaps love for surgery, trivializes medical procedures, et cetera.

03:45How do you address them?

03:47Well, usually we don't, I don't hear a lot about that from the negativity.

03:51I usually get, thank you for helping us.

03:54Thank you preventing an issue.

03:57Basically a billionaire in California was watching our show and she saw one of the shows

04:04which this patient had a unusual diagnosis called sarcoidosis.

04:11Let me say it again.

04:13She has a unusual medical syndrome called sarcoid, sarcoidosis.

04:20And this patient saw those symptoms and said, you know what, that's what I have.

04:26And basically it saved her life.

04:28So you know, the episodes are also a very incredible cautionary tale.

04:35Oh, that's brilliant.

04:37And how involved are you in the editing of the show?

04:40Do you look at the, to be honest now?

04:42Yeah, yeah.

04:43We are not involved in the editing.

04:46Even though we are executive producers, Dr. Dubrow and I are not involved in the editing.

04:51Not at all.

04:52Not at all.

04:53Tell me more about your chemistry.

04:56How does it go?

04:57You claim in your Instagram account you are the better looking of the two.

05:01Of course.

05:02What do you mean claim?

05:03I mean, hello.

05:04Even though I don't look great there, but look at, I mean, you know, that's a lot of

05:07makeup for this guy.

05:08He even looks kind of cute in that photo.

05:10In real life though, he's not.

05:12He's got to let me take that nose and lift it up.

05:14I mean, obviously I'm the better looking one.

05:16I mean, come on.

05:17Of course, of course.

05:18I mean, you know.

05:19But we have a great chemistry.

05:20We've been friends for many, many years.

05:23You know, obviously he teases me more.

05:26But again, you'll see a more relaxed version of me this year.

05:30You know, listen, we have fun and we enjoy it.

05:32We enjoy filming it.

05:33But again, the stakes are high because we do very difficult, scary surgeries.

05:42You can't forget that.

05:43I mean, the premise may be funny, like you might be joking around at the end of the day.

05:47You are cutting somebody open.

05:49Well, yeah, but when we're in surgery or at least when I'm in surgery, I'm not joking

05:52around.

05:54This is really serious.

05:56And my goal is focused, have the right plan with my team.

06:00And yeah, you know, you know, listen, maybe, you know, towards the end when things are

06:03going a little easy and you're kind of wrapping things up, maybe the music comes on and the

06:09atmosphere lightens up.

06:11But that's after you've crossed that, you know, the level and you're going back down

06:15now.

06:16Dr. Paul, do you read the reviews of your shows or do you look at Insta reviews that

06:20happen, you know, per episode perhaps?

06:22And does it affect you?

06:23I mean, you know, like I would if I put up a piece and they don't like it.

06:27I get affected.

06:28I understand.

06:29How do you handle it?

06:30I don't.

06:31In other words, I'm too busy to sit and look at reviews for the show, whether it's on Instagram,

06:36social media, wherever, YouTube, wherever it's found.

06:40I think it's a great show.

06:43And I think if people are making negative comments about it, you know, whatever you

06:47want to call them, haters or whatever, let them.

06:50But the point is, this show speaks for itself and it helps a lot of people.

06:54Right.

06:55What's the one thing that you want to tell your viewers perhaps about this?

06:59Like we are eight seasons on and this is why you should watch it.

07:04Listen, we're eight seasons on and for the people to keep wanting it back for eight season,

07:08you know, it's a fun show.

07:10So if you want some entertainment, you want a little laughing, you want a little crying,

07:14you want to see some kind of gory surgery and a great makeover.

07:20This is the show to watch.

07:21Of course.

07:23Did you always want to be a plastic surgeon?

07:25I wanted to be a doctor since probably the age of 12.

07:28Plastic surgeon that came on way later.

07:31Well done.

07:32During my residency of ear, nose and throat.

07:35That's my desire to become a facial plastic surgery, a surgeon blossomed in my residency.
