00:00If you thought that right-wing populism was over with the end of Donald Trump's presidency,

00:08well, we were all mistaken about that. In Europe, increasingly, we are seeing a trend

00:13of a growth of far-right politics in that continent, and it's happening in many, many

00:18countries. Now, in last week's parliamentary elections in Spain, the far-right Vox party

00:24actually defied expectations and didn't do as well as people thought it would. But it

00:28is still Spain's third-largest party. In France, we've just seen the worst urban riots

00:34since 2005, and many experts believe that the anti-immigration sentiment that has gripped

00:40a large part of France will help Marine Le Pen, the far-right leader who already has

00:44the largest number of opposition MPs in France's parliament. So she could actually politically

00:49gain from the fault lines that we have been seeing exposed in France. Similarly, in many

00:55other parts of Europe, whether it is Germany, Austria, Sweden, the Netherlands, we are

00:59seeing more and more right-wing populism gain ground. One common thread that's uniting

01:04many of these parties is the anti-immigration sentiment, but they are also now taking stands

01:09on other issues that could impact not just Europe, but the entire world, such as climate

01:14change. They may not necessarily have a uniform view on it, but it is a view that they have

01:20come together on, and some of them are climate deniers, others are climate nationalists in

01:25a sense, who believe that there should only be local solutions for dealing with climate

01:29change, and they don't want to enter any international agreements for the same. How this is going

01:34to play out in the next few years will be critical, not just for Europe, but for the world.
