I'm not surprised for a reason because there have been games after games where Virat Kohli has lost narrow games.
00:14
Hi guys and welcome once again to Straight Back with Mr Cricket, UAE and Golf News.
00:18
We've had an absolute cracker tonight with RCB and DC.
00:22
But first of all, as always, we'll go over to say hi to Anis Sajan.
00:27
Hi Matt. Hi beautiful people of the Golf News community.
00:31
What a cracker of a game. But before I talk about the game, as every day we speak about,
00:35
you need to predict the winner of every match and you walk away with this beautiful jacket and three months of subscription of Golf News.
00:44
Now, we'll just get right in there.
00:47
We had Virat Kohli partying like he just won the trophy at the end there with a one-run win over Delhi Capitals for RCB.
00:57
He really knew how much this one meant after they lost their last match.
01:01
I'm not surprised for a reason because there have been games after games where Virat Kohli has lost narrow games,
01:08
where his bowlers in the end, rather in the death overs, have leaked in 4 overs 50, 4 overs 60.
01:14
And he's always been on the losing side.
01:16
So in this tournament, he has got a big smile where he's pulled up two matches defending,
01:21
where the margins would have gone either this way or that way.
01:26
So definitely a relieved man. And unfortunate for Delhi, it's a game of small margins.
01:32
And today, probably RCB was on the right side.
01:36
Okay. And again, I would say, as you said, there was that second last ball that could have gone either way,
01:43
as you mentioned just before we came on air, that it could be an umpire's call,
01:47
that could have been a no ball and it would have changed the result.
01:49
That's the finest of margins, isn't it?
01:52
I bet, for example, had it been given a no ball, you would have seen Virat Kohli fuming.
01:57
And I wouldn't blame, that's the emotions which come out.
02:00
To be very honest, Pankaj held his emotions.
02:03
But Hetmayar was very clear that it was a no ball.
02:06
But that's the way the game goes. Sometimes the umpire's call goes in your favour.
02:10
Sometimes it goes in the other's favour.
02:12
And today, it was RCB's turn.
02:14
Otherwise, that two balls, you would have got an extra ball.
02:17
And you never know what would have happened.
02:18
But credit to Siraj, he bowled three good balls in the last over.
02:22
And that probably made the difference.
02:24
And of course, small mistakes here and there proved costly for Delhi.
02:30
Of course, you could talk about the whole two innings,
02:33
about one error that cost one run.
02:35
But it all comes down to those fine margins right at the end of the game.
02:41
Sahil, looking back, RCB really needed to win this one.
02:47
And they did, just about.
02:49
But I don't think either side will come away with this with too much damage.
02:55
Absolutely not. It was an equal contest.
02:59
I mean, yes, Shimron Hetmeyer saved them to come at least in there.
03:03
But it was still even.
03:05
Delhi bowled well.
03:06
But it was again, AB de Villiers.
03:08
You know how crazy that guy is.
03:10
He scored a crazy 75 runs.
03:13
And AB de Villiers saved them to get to 117.
03:16
It was like Shimron Hetmeyer played a quick innings.
03:18
Otherwise, if he had not played, I don't think Delhi would have been in contention.
03:22
But he did.
03:23
Rishabh Pant, had a tough day with the bat.
03:25
He went very slow.
03:28
Credit to RCB for holding their nerve.
03:30
After Jameson going for 21 runs, after three overs, he was 11 runs.
03:33
He went 21 runs.
03:34
No one expects that, you know.
03:35
This is the beauty of T20 cricket.
03:39
And obviously, Rajwel and Maxwell also, after a slight wobble between Coley and Badegal at the start.
03:46
Maxwell, they set a little bit of a base as well.
03:50
So that AB could then go on and, you know, cut this.
03:54
And get them to that total that was then just one run out of touch.
04:01
Is that the confidence that is now there in the RCB team that maybe,
04:06
that they are now instilling that wasn't there before?
04:10
It's true.
04:11
You know what?
04:12
Till last year, they had only AB and...
04:14
Yeah, hi Shyam.
04:15
Till last year, they had only AB and Virat running the show.
04:21
They had this time Glenn Maxwell.
04:23
So what is happening is, after Virat and Glenn Maxwell give the platform with the help of Badegal,
04:28
there is the fireworks from AB De Villiers.
04:30
So that is giving them that extra cushion.
04:32
But mind you, one fact I want to share before, since we are talking about this game.
04:36
This is the first time two players have been unbitten on a half-century and they have been on the losing side.
04:44
And secondly, Rishabh Pant's two half-centuries have not had a six.
04:48
So there is that margin of pin.
04:51
It could have gone either way.
04:52
Rishabh Pant generally is a clean striker of the ball.
04:55
But today I felt he was slogging the ball more than time.
04:58
And there is where it was a difference.
05:00
Whereas Hetman was hitting it clean.
05:03
Okay.
05:04
So like I say, even though Pant still hit a 58, two half-centuries there, Shyam.
05:09
But obviously, thanks for joining us, sir.
05:11
But obviously, we'd covered the Kohli celebrations and the fine margins.
05:17
Pant and Hetman, as I said, generally will come away with this, like I say, without too many problems, I don't think.
05:26
I think they know how to pick themselves up from here, Shyam.
05:36
Sorry.
05:37
I'm just saying that I think that maybe DC won't come away with too many problems from this game.
05:41
They know it was a one-run defeat and they know how to pick themselves up.
05:45
It's not going to dent their confidence too much.
05:49
It may be a one-run defeat.
05:51
But you see some problems there.
05:55
Simply, I don't know whether you guys have covered this already.
05:58
Because the last over from Delhi, that is the small ball by Stein, perhaps cost this match.
06:06
If you look at that, he gave it 23 runs in that over.
06:10
Whereas the margin of defeat is just one run.
06:13
So the match would have been won and lost right there.
06:18
We did talk earlier about how we could analyse here, there and everywhere.
06:22
We talked about was the second last ball a no ball?
06:27
But you could look at a missed run here and there.
06:29
But yes, you're bang on.
06:30
That was a very expensive over.
06:34
I mean, all the commentators were saying, because they were quite surprised.
06:39
Because up till this point, Stein had bowled a single over.
06:42
And you had other bowlers who had their quotas left.
06:46
And why would you bring a bowler, even if he's the best bowler.
06:51
If he's coming in to bowl, I mean, you can't be expected to take on the final over when all the pressure is on you.
07:00
So you could have brought in Rabada, who had his lowest left.
07:03
He is a very good left bowler.
07:05
And he's a proven one too.
07:07
So it's a steep learning curve for somebody like Rishabh Pant.
07:12
Probably he didn't calculate it that well.
07:14
Or maybe he placed too much confidence on Stoinis.
07:21
Because Stoinis has done this kind of situation in the past.
07:24
He's bowled exceptionally well at the death.
07:26
But today to come and bowl just one over the entire match to the final over.
07:31
I think that was too much of an ask.
07:34
So just explain to me one thing as an innocent Scotsman in the world of cricket.
07:40
Is that an on-field decision by the captain then who takes the final over?
07:44
It doesn't come from upstairs?
07:46
No, on the field, all the on-field decisions are the captain.
07:51
Because they might discuss a broad strategy.
07:53
But the final point, the execution of the field is entirely left to the captain.
07:59
You can have all your strategies in your place.
08:01
You can plan everything.
08:02
But the by-the-minute planning is entirely up to the captain.
08:05
Which is why cricket captaincy is so different from any other game.
08:10
Because the captain has to be thinking on the field all the time.
08:14
Okay.
08:15
As you mean, like in football, you've got a manager on the touchline
08:18
that will make all the key decisions for you?
08:21
No, not at all. This is his own decision.
08:24
Because the whole scenario changes by the minute.
08:28
So he has to be making changes by the minute.
08:32
So you're changing on the field all the time.
08:34
That's interesting.
08:35
Absolutely.
08:37
Occasionally, you might see some managers send messages across.
08:43
Because one of the matches when Punjab Kings played,
08:47
I saw Kumble sending some messages through the field.
08:52
I was standing on the line.
08:54
So those kind of things happen.
08:56
But by and large, it is entirely up to the captain.
09:00
Okay.
09:01
And Anas, just touching on that same sort of thing,
09:05
if you look at the captaincy and the trust that teams obviously
09:10
with experience comes to success.
09:13
But guys like MS Dhoni, they know how to manage these critical decisions.
09:18
We saw Virat do that today.
09:21
Does it look like RCB now have that confidence back again
09:25
and they're going to, shall we dare say it,
09:29
really threaten for the title this time?
09:32
Well, as much as I'd love to say that they're there for the title,
09:35
but with RCB and Virat Kohli, you cannot be sure of anything.
09:40
This is a tournament which has eluded RCB and Virat Kohli
09:44
for 13 long years.
09:46
We hope he breaks his jinx, not only for RCB,
09:48
but for the sake of India.
09:50
Because mind you, the T20 World Cup is following
09:52
and it will give him a lot of confidence.
09:55
Okay.
09:56
And Sahil, again, looking at that innings, that chase,
10:01
obviously they came up one short.
10:04
We talked about everything there,
10:06
but we'd not really talked about Steve Smith.
10:09
Again, only four runs on the board.
10:12
Is he out of place at number three there?
10:15
I mean, to be honest,
10:17
if this was a chase made for Steve Smith to anchor,
10:20
yeah, he did get out early.
10:21
But yes, for your question, he has to be there.
10:25
He's a fantastic batsman.
10:27
You know how we say, we see Kane Williamson
10:29
play for Sunrisers Hyderabad.
10:31
You remember the last game,
10:32
the man took it till the end against Delhi Capitals.
10:35
So that's how Steve Smith is to them.
10:37
And he has to play.
10:39
They need a guy who anchors.
10:41
Shikhar Dhawan and Prithvi Shah, yes, they're openers,
10:44
but they can get out sometimes.
10:46
And I can agree that Steve Smith did not work out today,
10:48
but I think he's got to play.
10:50
He's got to start the other games for sure.
10:53
Okay, yeah, no, I'm not asking that.
10:55
I'm just talking about,
10:56
as we talked about shuffling the order,
10:57
he stays where he is.
10:59
Yeah, he's got to come at number three.
11:01
It's the right call to bring him at number three.
11:03
Absolutely.
11:05
Cool.
11:06
There's no debate there then.
11:08
Okay.
11:09
And you mentioned about Sunrisers there
11:11
and Sham and also Anas there.
11:13
We've got an interesting one.
11:15
Sunrisers find themselves at the bottom of the table right now
11:18
and they're up against a Chennai team.
11:21
They've had a little bit of a rollercoaster,
11:23
but it seemed to have their tails up.
11:25
How do we see this going tomorrow?
11:29
Either or.
11:31
Okay, I'll go first.
11:34
Hyderabad doesn't look the team they were last year in the sense
11:38
that they had a second win when they came back into the reckoning
11:42
and into the knockout stages last year.
11:45
But this year they somehow don't seem to get things right,
11:50
even with Williamson back.
11:54
Okay, they took Delhi to the Super Over.
11:58
But that's about it.
12:00
If you look at their other losses, they've been pretty bad.
12:03
They lost very, very badly.
12:06
So I don't have much hopes on them unless they really turn around big time.
12:11
Because you take away the top three players,
12:14
let's say Bairstow, Warner, and Williamson,
12:17
there's little left in the batting line-up there.
12:20
It is almost like a sinkhole really,
12:23
which is why it doesn't give me much confidence to pick Hyderabad
12:28
for any of the games.
12:31
For tomorrow, I would say CSK are overwhelming favorites.
12:37
And Anas, do you concur with that?
12:40
Oh, yes.
12:41
I feel it right that CSK definitely go as favorites,
12:44
and Hyderabad unfortunately seems to be not playing the way they played last year.
12:50
But we never know if strange things happen.
12:52
We need to see if Hyderabad openers can finish the games.
12:55
It's the middle order which is letting them down.
12:58
Cool.
13:00
No, I think we've covered all the things there.
13:03
I mean, other than, you know, like we mentioned Smith.
13:07
Good enough, Matt.
13:09
Dhawan was the only other one with his six today,
13:12
but I think as Sahil said that he thinks he's going to come good,
13:15
so that's okay.
13:17
Well, good luck to Kohli and Koh.
13:19
I hope they can have a little bit of relief tonight
13:23
and they can celebrate that thrashing of one run.
13:27
And we'll see you all tomorrow for Sunrisers against Chennai.
13:31
Thanks very much for watching, guys.
13:32
And thank you to Anas, Sahil, and Sham.
13:36
Thank you. Good night.
13:37
Also, guys, don't forget to log on to Facebook
13:40
and choose your man of the match
13:42
so that you can get a chance to win one of these tops
13:44
and your three-month Scalp News subscription.
13:47
Cheers, guys.
13:48
Thanks, man. Good night.
