00:00The Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad passed away on September 29th at the age of 91.

00:06The Emir was admitted to the hospital on July 18th for medical checks and a day later

00:11underwent surgery successfully. His designated successor, Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf al-Ahmad

00:17al-Sabah temporarily took over some of the ruler's constitutional duties on July 18th.

00:23Sheikh Sabah assumed the position of Emir on January 29th, 2006. He became the 15th ruler

00:30from the al-Sabah dynasty and the fifth Emir of Kuwait since its independence. With 40 years of

00:35experience in international affairs, Sheikh Sabah played a key role in establishing and shaping

00:41Kuwait's foreign policy. He has been applauded as one of the Arab world's leading diplomats

00:46and a global humanitarian.
