00:00Malaysia's economy grew by 5.1% last year after rounding out the year, with a 5% gross

00:07domestic product growth in the final quarter.

00:10Bank Negara Malaysia said this was a significant increase compared with the 3.6% GDP growth

00:16recorded in 2023, though the 5% growth in Q4 was slightly lower than the 5.4% recorded

00:24in the previous quarter.

00:26In a statement today, BNM said domestic consumption and strong investment activity were the main

00:31drivers of the nation's growth.

00:34Household spending remained stable thanks to a strong job market and the support of

00:38government policies, while investment activity was fuelled by major projects under the National

00:43Energy Transition Roadmap and the new Industrial Master Plan.

00:48Inflation in the fourth quarter eased slightly to 1.8% from 1.9% in the previous quarter,

00:54with lower fuel and communication costs helping offset rising food prices.

00:59BNM expects steady growth in 2025, driven by investments, household spending, and stronger

01:05exports.
