Huawei has a definite winner with the brand new P50 Pro smartphone

00:00Hello and welcome back to gulfnews.com gadget review.

00:04Today as promised, previously we will be unboxing and reviewing the latest smartphone from Huawei,

00:12the P50 Pro.

00:13Considered a revolutionary device, it also comes in the foldable format, the P50 Pocket.

00:19So let's start.

00:22Here's my ever faithful X-Acto knife.

00:31Huawei P50 Pro comes with its own case cover which is silicone and it's transparent so

00:38you can use it or you could get one of those foldable covers or not use it at all, depending

00:45on your preference.

00:51Here's the pin to insert the SIM card.

00:57Here's the super fast charger with a plug, port and this goes into the phone and that's

01:10the first step.

01:12So first things first, we're going to look at the aesthetics of the phone.

01:17It's beautifully designed.

01:18It has what you call a dual matrix camera design, a lot more detail coming on the camera

01:24because the camera is amazing.

01:26You can do a lot of things, it's like nearly 200% zoom and you also have a selfie option

01:33which is like an extra enlarged version.

01:36So for all those influencers out there, this might be a great tool.

01:40So I'm going to set up this phone as a brand new phone as opposed to using the Huawei phone

01:45clone which you would get in the Huawei app gallery and you can transfer all your content

01:51seamlessly from your previous device into this.

01:54In fact, we've actually done this for the P40 Pro and you can check out the link which

01:59will be posted below to find out how to use the phone clone.

02:04So let's get started.

02:10Now you can either insert the SIM card or skip.

02:15So I'm going to actually skip right now.

02:18So I'm going to connect using the Wi-Fi.

02:22I'm going to proceed.

02:27You can either set up a fingerprint ID, face recognition, password.

02:32Now I'm going to skip this for now.

02:37Now Huawei ID, especially if you have a Huawei device is excellent because it kind of synchronizes

02:43all your Huawei devices and it's like a unique number and an account and like they have said

02:48here you also get like exclusive member benefits, offers because sometimes they have competition

02:54so you might actually win some great prizes.

02:57Now moving on.

03:00It's very important for you to actually have a Huawei ID because that's what gives you

03:06access to the Huawei app gallery and the cloud and a lot of other services such as

03:11this finding your device, if you lose it.

03:19Now you can set a six digit PIN once you log in using your Huawei ID.

03:24The other thing that comes up is things like media services.

03:26So you can have enable Huawei video service, book service, music service.

03:32I don't actually want the video or the books but I do want the music so I'm going to agree.

03:39Again this is allowing you using the app gallery in case you want to make purchases.

03:45So just like the other Play Stores this also has an in-app purchase and you need to add

03:50your details.

03:51You can either add a phone number or a bank card but in this case I'm going to do that

03:55later.

03:57Then you have the HMS score which is absolutely necessary because that's how you are going

04:02to get your updates.

04:04Enable all services, share analytics it's up to you but I think it's a good thing because

04:11that means they can actually it helps them improve their patches or the next iteration

04:17that comes along.

04:21Location services necessary if you're using certain apps so you can enable.

04:27Now this is why I said the Huawei ID is really important because you can actually get away

04:34without having to use the phone clone to a great extent because you can restore from

04:39the Huawei cloud back or set up as a new device.

04:43I went for the option of backing up from the Huawei cloud and the entire thing backed up

04:51in literally a minute and we are nearing the end.

04:55I'm going to try and set it up as a new device.

04:59So you have hand gestures etc.

05:08Now you can change the navigation method.

05:12Some people like the presence of the three key navigation button.

05:19I prefer that so I'm going to stick to that.

05:23I am going to look for some other apps.

05:34A really useful app is the Petal Maps.

05:38Something interesting I found out about Petal Maps and its high level of accuracy is that

05:44in fact its maps actually have the UAE Makani numbers in it which means that it literally

05:51takes you to the doorstep of the place you want to go and that's really really interesting

05:56and useful.

05:58So I searched for Gulf News and its the top app and I'm going to install that.

06:05That's it.

06:09Done.

06:12YouTube.

06:14It's already coming pre-installed so agree and there it is.

06:29The next one I'm going to look for is Facebook.

06:40Now because of this whole struggle that's happening between the HMS core and the Google

06:48services from the US, they have another solution where you can do what is called an APK file

06:55and you get that in Petal Search but when you search here within the app gallery it

06:59actually throws it up and you can get that from there.

07:11So just download.

07:18So allow app gallery, allow, install and that will get your Facebook installed.

07:31Let's search for WhatsApp.

07:39So you get WhatsApp Messenger.

07:41Again look for the APKpure file.

07:53So there it is.

07:55Download now.

07:58EDIB.

08:01There it is.

08:10So again, Talabat, open.

08:24Ready to order food which is the next one.

08:27I've already installed Al-Husn.

08:30I am now going to search for Etisalat.

08:51There it is.

08:52Etisalat mobile app.

08:55So while that's queued up, I'm going to look for the next one which is Outlook for my emails.

09:09There it is, Microsoft Outlook.

09:21Download the APK.

09:25Let's look for the next one.

09:29So I already have TikTok but I'm going to verify.

09:41So do you want the regular TikTok or the TikTok Lite?

09:47I'll find the TikTok Lite.

09:51So as it installs again, Emirates Airlines already in there.

09:59You also have the Emirates NBD.

10:02You can install.

10:07And while that's queued up, I am going to do Etihad.

10:15There it is.

10:19It's already installed.

10:22While that's also queued up, I'm going to check for RTA, RTA Dubai.

10:33So you have the Dubai Drive and the RTA Dubai.

10:35I'm going to install the RTA Dubai.

10:41And then, of course, Diva, install.

10:53Similar to Microsoft Outlook, as it's downloading, you can get Zoom, Microsoft Office, Microsoft

11:01Word, Adobe, and Microsoft Teams.

11:15Here are the APKs for all of them.

11:18So the downloads are happening in the background.

11:21Meanwhile, I'm just going to show you some of the other aspects.

11:26One is the settings.

11:27So now connections, display, brightness, sounds, notifications, security, privacy is the usual.

11:37And the HMS score, which is really important, and where you can check for your system updates,

11:43software update, et cetera, phone clone, all of that is in there.

11:48Now, something that's really interesting is that if there is something here that you cannot

11:53find, just use the search.

11:55So for example, I say navigation.

12:00So it'll give you the various options.

12:06So you have navigation top, system navigation, et cetera.

12:10So this is a very useful aspect of settings.

12:14Now, of course, the photo gallery, petal maps that I set, the music, video, and then all

12:21the others that are being downloaded.

12:23This is our Gulf News app, which is really fast to download.

12:27And you should check out all our content.

12:30And the ones that are, there's Facebook here, Facebook, sorry.

12:35And there's the Etisalad, ADIB, Emirates, the Etihad is installing, RTA, Diva, RTA is

12:42downloading, Diva is in the queue, and of course, WhatsApp.

12:48So we are all set.

12:50Now, let me show you one of the most attractive aspects of this phone, which is its camera.

13:00Now, this is where it gets really interesting.

13:06Let me take a picture and show you the difference.

13:11Now, this is the camera.

13:14I wanted to show this to you because the high definition quality of the photograph, especially

13:24for the fact that it is capturing a very high resolution image and shows you true color.

13:30So this is exactly as how you would see these objects with the naked eye.

13:37I want to show you something quite incredible with the Huawei P50 camera.

13:44It's quite amazing.

13:45Now if you click on photo, so that's wide, and then the magnification starts, 3.5, there,

13:53that's pretty large, 10 times, and it's huge.

13:58Now, you can actually magnify it 100 times, and it tells you what you're looking at because

14:05you no longer can see it at that magnification level and at this distance.

14:10So I'm going to take it back so you can actually see it.

14:15And all this while, it is at optimal resolution.

14:21This is quite amazing, especially if you like to do a bit of long distance photography.

14:31So essentially, the 64MP periscope telephoto camera brings the far away things closer,

14:38while the Huawei XT Optics has improved the image quality so much, which is why you get

14:45this incredible real life resolution.

14:50And the zoom, as I said, is amazing, so you can really capture far away shots.

14:56You can do moon photography really well with this too.

15:07The other important aspect of the Huawei P50 Pro is that it allows for multi-screen collaboration.

15:16So it's what Huawei calls a super device, and it's possible if you have a Huawei MateBook

15:22or a Huawei MatePad, which reminds me, we will be reviewing the Huawei MatePad E.

15:30The sound quality is excellent, all the other tools are in there.

15:36So this is a great new device from Huawei, and that's all from us for today.
