00:00The winners of the yearly Saluki Championship were crowned after an action-packed day at

00:07the Al Marmoon racetrack in Dubai on Saturday.

00:11Organized by the Hamdan bin Muhammad Heritage Center, the competition honors the fastest

00:16Salukis in a series of races that pits the prized canines against each other in the ultimate

00:22test of speed and stamina.

00:28The 60 Salukis, including 25 from Saudi Arabia, took part in the 13th edition of the contest,

00:34having cleared qualifying rounds on January 27 and 28.

00:39We have six races.

00:44On the 1,000 meters, we have male-female grand rounds, which is the final race.

00:51And on the 2,500, we'll have the general, which is the Arabian Saluki, which is for

01:01the general, two race, male-female, and also for professional, male-female.

01:06So total six races today, inshallah, which are the final and closing of this season.

01:11Famous for their hunting prowess, Salukis are a traditional part of Bedouin culture.

01:16Egged on by their breeders and owners, the strong and graceful animals sprinted down

01:20the racetrack at blistering speeds as they chased their prey, a robotic gazelle, held

01:25by a crane on the back of a pickup.

01:27This was the first time a robotic gazelle was used in a championship, and the Salukis

01:31fell for it.
