00:00Hello, I'm John Spiller and I'm the Root Director of the Golf News Fund Drive.

00:09And I'm going to tell you how to have fun on it.

00:12You will have fun, but listen to a few tips and a few bits of advice to help you have

00:17fun.

00:18First of all, before you leave home in the week leading up to the Fund Drive, read everything

00:23that's sent to you by Golf News.

00:26It's got the instructions, it tells you what to do in different situations and tells you

00:30how to get to the start and what to do when you have a problem.

00:35Then your vehicle.

00:37Check your tyres are in good condition, check they're inflated, but most importantly, check

00:42that your spare wheel has got air in it.

00:45Make sure you've got your jack and your wheel brace, the spanner for undoing your wheel

00:48nuts and obviously check your oil and water in the car.

00:52And if you don't go in the desert very often, make sure you know how to put it into four

00:57wheel drive.

01:00Just take some basics with you, never go to the desert without a good supply of water.

01:04Take some sandwiches, some biscuits just in case.

01:07On the safety side, carry a first aid kit.

01:10Basic equipment, you need a pressure gauge, check your tyres, you need a shovel to dig

01:17yourself out or dig other people out.

01:19And naturally you need a rope so that you can pull people out or people can pull you

01:24out.

01:25And one little simple piece of advice is to take a little piece of wood, a plank, to put

01:29your jack on on the sand.

01:31It'll help you changing wheels or jacking your car out of the sand.

01:38On the day of the fun drive, or rather the night before, fill your car up with fuel.

01:42Then you sign on, you register, you get your route information, you then need to deflate

01:46your tyres.

01:47Now, you should have a pressure gauge, so drop the pressures to about 16 or 18 pounds.

01:53Then don't forget to engage four wheel drive if you don't have permanent four wheel drive.

01:59When you get to the start, don't forget to reset your odometer, your trip meter to zero

02:04so that you can follow the road book and the instructions to get you round the route.

02:10When it comes to driving, there's so many cars out there, you have to pay attention

02:15to certain obvious risks.

02:17Keep a gap between you and the car in front.

02:20If it's dusty, hang well back and don't drive fast in the dust.

02:24And when it gets to tricky technical sections through the dunes, hold back until the car

02:29in front of you has got through that particular section.

02:35Never forget that in order to have fun, you need to be safe.

02:38Your passengers are your responsibility and you have to make sure that you conduct a safe

02:45car.

02:46Remember to make sure that everybody does up their seatbelts, preferably drive with

02:50the windows up.

02:51It keeps the sand out and if there was any sort of fall over, it keeps people inside

02:56the car.

02:57Pay particular attention where you've got young children inside and outside the car,

03:02particularly in a recovery situation where children are running around on the sand.

03:06Keep them well back out of the way.

03:08When you have a problem in the sand, we have plenty of marshals to help you, but do obey

03:13their instructions and do it implicitly what they ask of you.

03:17Apart from that, enjoy the sand, but importantly, take your rubbish with you.

03:24Then finally, after the event, well done for getting round, but don't forget to re-inflate

03:30and if you have a nice handy little inflator, that would be great and then get the sand

03:36out of the car using one of these dust busters and your car will be ready to go to the office

03:42Finally, to let you into a little secret, Black & Decker have a car washing facility

03:47at the end of the, which will also be open in the morning, where you can go and have

03:52your car washed or you can wash it yourself and help clean it up and they'll have all

03:57their products, their related products available for you.

04:01So have fun and a good drive.
