00:00We are doing a story on why Dubai is called the city of gold. As you know people from all over

00:07the world come to the emirate to buy gold because they trust the gold that they buy from the city.

00:15They trust its purity and we are here at Dubai municipality to find out just why the gold that

00:23you buy here in Dubai can be trusted. We will be making random inspections along with Dubai

00:30municipality inspectors. They will be making random checks at jewelry stores across Dubai

00:36and we are traveling with them to see the entire process on how they pick jewelry pieces from

00:46jewelry stores and bring it to the Dubai municipality lab to test for its purity.

00:51We have nine inspectors just we are controlling the product in the emirate of Dubai.

01:00For the gold and jewelry we have four inspectors. They are visiting the market every day as

01:09the daily program what we have we are issuing them through the system. For the beginning

01:15after getting the daily program they will see where it is located. We make the program

01:26it is very simple through the system. They will choose the shop through the

01:36grouping. Grouping it means most of the shops should be close to each other to make it easy

01:43for the inspector to cover most of them. I have to add the inspector's name. For example my name

01:53Maryam and the date for today okay and this is I click here they will show for me that this is

02:02group number 21 have three shops okay the shops in Al-Mazaya center. When they will

02:12enter to the to the shop they will check the the trade license and the name and they will check on

02:20the shop so many things if they have different different items like a bangle, chain, ring,

02:29bracelet they will they will check it as randomly as per the procedure they will collect it

02:35in front of them and they will check the mark. I will check the license number the same number

02:44and I have to write all information the date the license number short name and the area the

02:52location okay now I have to choose samples can I see the other one yes please this is 22 okay

03:08which one this one please yeah okay now I have to start to check the whole mark. Each of these items

03:19they have a mark a different mark like we we are seeing 22 and 21 and 18 this is what's the

03:29regularly you are checking and you are seeing this market on all the items sometime it was

03:34not written 22 sometime it's written 916 916 it mean 22 875 it mean 21 and 715 it mean 18.

06:13police the court and this they are bringing to our laboratory so this machine is x-ray

06:31we from the customer different customer sure from the trade and from public this

06:41machine is give us the result within 45 minutes which is make the distance

06:50too short and we can serve the customer in short time also also it's accurate so now

07:43this chemical test we make our our mix to put it in the furnace which is 100

07:531100 temperature after that we evaporate all the elements there and the other metals and

08:04after that we we get from this step alloy from gold and silver from that alloy then

08:16we we go to the second step which is a chemical step and we dissolve the silver from this alloy

08:25then we will get the pure gold this pure gold we we start to put it in the

08:34balance and we get the weight which is we we use it for our calculation

08:39to get the the final result of gold purity as you know we've we started off with the random

08:47inspections collected samples from jewelry stores brought it to the lab here there are two processes

08:54involved in the lab itself one there is an x-ray machine as you saw where the sample is put in and

09:03the the system brings out the details of the sample just to tell you whether it's of 22

09:11carat gold or 24 carat gold and then in in certain cases where the sample needs to be tested further

09:19there are more processes done for example the the piece is cut a little bit airbrushed and

09:28put in this furnace room there's a whole lot of process we hope that you've you know understood
