Welcome back to the next edition of Court and Crimes for IGTV. Ali is back. We are back from
00:14
our Eid break and it's been a relatively quiet week but we have some interesting cases lined up
00:20
which is the first one that you're going to tell us about it. Yeah, the first one it's actually
00:25
it's a guidance for all the audience about the bounce check because this topic of the
00:31
bounce checks many people's concern of what if I have a bounce check, what's my right will be
00:37
because before two years a legal order for bounce check cases less than 200,000 dirham usually it's
00:47
just like the suspect go to the prosecution and pay a fine between 2,000 to 10,000 dirham if the
00:55
bounce check less than 200,000 dirham. So it's it's raised a concern by the by the victims what
01:02
they do what where from where they get their rights. I mean how am I gonna get my money back.
01:06
Exactly so judges and lawyers we got that government spoke with them they said that
01:14
paying the fine is not the end of the story. The person can get his right by launching a civil
01:21
case and the civil court to pursue his right. And this has to be done within a specific time period?
01:27
Yes, yes that's what it should be within three years from the time that the penalty been issued
01:33
by traffic prosecution because the legal order that it was announced before two years by his
01:40
Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid it's it's helped to reduce the traffic on court because
01:47
many judges were dealing with mostly with the bounce check cases. I mean yes I mean
01:54
Dubai Public Prosecution they announced that they settled more than 30,000 cases
02:02
bounce check cases from November 2017 to the end of 2018. That's huge. Yes so 87% of those cases
02:12
were bounce check cases less than 200,000 dirham. So this law this order came to help reduce the
02:22
backlog and kind of help the same time it's raised a concern for the victims from where they get
02:29
their rights because the suspect or the issuer of the bounce check he just like he paid the fine
02:35
between 2000 and 10,000 dirham but still judges they told Gulf News that people can pursue their
02:42
rights by launching a civil case in a civil court. And in fact Ali has done this in-depth story and
02:47
you can find it on gulfnews.com so you can actually go back and refer to it and it's an
02:52
excellent guide to always keep on hand. Yes. The second case is actually interesting case and
02:58
involves massage cards and how all of us hate them when they're stuck to our cars but this has a
03:04
different twist to it. Yeah I mean this story it was in Dubai courts recently a guy he was walking
03:13
in the streets in the international city he was searching for a massage center he found a massage
03:18
car on the ground he took it he called the number on the massage card and a woman replied and she
03:25
guided him to the massage center he went but apparently it was a fake massage center so after
03:30
he had his massage session and he paid the fees a gang just like opened the door it was a trap the
03:38
massage center was a trap so they opened the door they beat him up they tied him and then they stole
03:42
his money from his wallet and then they left him behind so it was a fake massage center. Yeah which
03:49
is again a warning don't. Yes you need you need to check the massage center if it's legal or illegal
03:56
before you go to it otherwise maybe you will face troubles or problems especially if you land in a
04:02
fake massage center. Absolutely yeah I mean and this could have been much worse. Yeah I mean yes.
04:07
He actually survived the attacks. I mean yeah they they beat him up yeah they even you know they they
04:12
told him that they threatened him to report the incident to Dubai police they said that the
04:18
massage is illegal in the country so I mean visitors or people in this country they don't
04:24
know that if it's a legal massage center then it's okay so that's the gang they just like
04:32
threatened the guy of so to scare him not to even to report the incidents to Dubai police so they
04:38
get away with their with what they do yes but Dubai police they arrested they arrested the gang and
04:46
now they are on a trial okay yes for yeah so we will be hearing more of that yes yes so just like
04:53
it's it's hopefully people should be more aware of the massage cars not all the massage cars that
05:00
you can call and so you need to check yes I mean when you just you can just like search on the
05:07
internet of decent massage centers for that yeah which brings us to the third case which is again
05:15
which happened at global village yeah it's it's it's an incident happened in a global village
05:22
recently in Dubai a woman she was searching for a book to buy a novel so she went to the Saudi
05:29
pavilion and a salesman she accused him of sexually abusing her she said that he touched her finger and
05:39
he spoke with her about relationships and stuff so she was she felt scared and she called Dubai
05:45
police Dubai police arrested the guy and he was on trial for sexually abusing the girl because of
05:53
the poor evidence in this case the guy was acquitted from the sexual abuse which which
05:59
is really interesting because I witnessed many cases of sexual abuse landed in courtroom because
06:07
of a guy touching a woman even if it's sometimes accidentally you still can be landed in trouble
06:14
yeah I mean it's a so be careful yeah I mean be careful because UAE is a Muslim country they have
06:22
their own traditions so touching a woman in a public place yeah I mean with this with this
06:32
story the guy he just like while he was handing her the book he touched her finger so she felt
06:39
offended from that thing so she reported to the police she has all the right to report to the
06:44
police and then investigation so the guy went to courtroom he was charged with sexual abuse
06:49
because you know touching of a woman in a public place in the UAE it's forbidden yes so this kind
06:56
of thing it's can't land the person in trouble and he can't go to jail because of that of touch
07:03
so it's you know you when you go to the metro you know when you go to the absolutely you should not
07:08
be invading anybody's exact or privacy or breaching the privacy yeah exactly of any person for that
07:14
matter yeah and especially for women without their permission and that is not acceptable and will be
07:19
dealt with yeah rather strictly I mean yeah yeah I mean that the law is really strict to this point
07:25
because the person can't be even deported from the country beside the prison time so for foreigners
07:32
they can be deported for the wrong touch yeah so be careful yes yeah on that note we end today
07:38
have a great weekend but Ali will be back with his next installment next week so stay tuned and
07:45
we'll catch you again next Thursday
