Well, looking at Everton and the latest in terms of the boardroom and the situation off
00:06
the pitch, obviously, in terms of the recruitment across January, it wasn't as good as many
00:12
would have expected, but obviously you had the managerial change as well and there was
00:16
a lot to handle off the pitch before you looked at the recruitment side. In terms of the sort
00:21
of director of football and that sort of scouting system going on with Everton, where does it
00:26
stand at the moment? We've mentioned about Kevin Falwell's future at the club and his
00:32
sort of situation. What's the latest you can tell us?
00:35
Yeah, it's interesting because Kevin Falwell, a lot of fans have asked for transparency
00:39
and that's what he did. He came out after the window shut, spoke to the club's media
00:44
team about why Everton didn't go and sign a striker and I think most people would agree
00:51
that what he said, there wasn't many out there and Everton didn't want to ruin the current
00:56
PSR situation that they've worked really hard to improve. He said that Everton have
01:02
racked up ÂŁ225 million in player sales during his time at the club and brought in players
01:08
for ÂŁ145 million, so ÂŁ80 million minus net spend there to reduce the PSR situation.
01:17
And look at the way a striker out there than Everton panicked before and went out and bought
01:22
players that have proven a little bit detrimental. I mean, Neil Northgate's the one you think
01:27
of in recent times when it comes to a striker. But yeah, now you're looking at the summer
01:34
because David Moyes will probably start the planning ahead for the summer and what happens
01:40
now with just Kevin Falwell, I'm sure he still will be because he's a really professional,
01:47
diligent person. He'll want to give his best to the end. He'll want to be staying with
01:51
Everton. Let's be frank, he's had to deal with a lot of...
01:58
He's had to deal with a lot, put it that way, since he joined the club. He maybe has been a
02:03
little bit hamstrung in terms of what he's able to do in terms of his job because he's been dealing
02:07
with so many things, putting out fires and for new ownership in the free congroove, I'm sure he
02:14
would like to have a decent budget where he can actually go out and recruit these players.
02:20
The free congroove, they might assess what he's brought in on his budget that he's had and think,
02:25
well, maybe didn't quite hit the standards. There are some fans who think that he hasn't quite
02:31
delivered. There are some fans who very much sympathise and point to players like
02:36
Ilhan Muzayi who's brought in, Jacob O'Brien looks a good player. It's a decision that the
02:44
free congroove have to make and you would like to hope it'll be pretty soon because
02:49
to say planning for the summer has already started now and Everton can ill afford to
02:53
be on the back foot when it comes to recruitment. And just finally on David Moyes, in terms of the
03:02
fans and obviously him coming in, can we sort of judge him and his team yet and his staff?
03:07
Obviously, the hand he's been dealt has been quite tough in his return,
03:11
you know, the huge amount of injuries as well. But there has been a slight change in things and
03:17
his approach is different and you can see that quite clearly as well. So, when do you feel that
03:22
we can fully sort of judge his time? Will it be as far as sort of next season now?
03:28
I think you can judge him now so far. I think what you can judge is there's been positives.
03:34
Every game Everton have been in, they've been pretty close. Even the two losses,
03:39
the one to Aston Villa that was separated by a clinical finish, by a clinical strike
03:43
in Ollie Watkins and the FA Cup loss to Bournemouth. Two mistakes at the back,
03:49
both from James Tarkowski in the way of the penalty and then the ball that led to the second
03:53
goal. And Everton hit the post three times and had one cleared off the bar. So, there have
03:58
definitely been more positive signs. Shorter, sharper passes, he's been encouraging. Certainly,
04:08
you know, changes to the likes of Illuminati, trying to get him to carry the ball a little bit
04:12
more. And in that win against Leicester, better over on the channels rather than playing up to
04:19
his chest and having us back towards goal. So, look, the positives are there. But as you say,
04:25
I think to judge him will be starting next season once he's had a full pre-season behind him,
04:31
once he's got the players in that he wants. Because he is working in tough circumstances
04:35
as well. He was only able to bring one player in January in Charlie Alcaraz.
04:42
So, you know, the injury as well, as you say, it's difficult. Look, if Everton comfortably,
04:48
you know, going into the last three or four games as dead robust, then I think it's a
04:53
staling job that he's achieved. Because that's what he was brought in to do, to ensure that
04:57
a relegation battle was avoided. And as things stand, that's what's happening.
