00:09The U.S. government said it still had 2,053 children in its custody who were separated

00:15from their parents under President Donald Trump's zero-tolerance immigration policy.

00:21But the Department of Homeland Security said it had a well-coordinated process in place

00:26to rehabilitate them.

00:27The comments follow fierce criticism from lawyers for parents and children who have

00:32said they have seen little evidence of an organised system.

00:37More than half of the European Union's leaders meet in Brussels today to grapple with a resurgent

00:42political crisis over refugees that threatens to tear the bloc apart.

00:47The 16 heads of government and state are responding to alarm about growing rifts not only among

00:53the EU's 28 members but also within the German government itself.
