00:08Security and safety steps are well in place for New Year's Eve celebrations tonight, expected

00:13to draw millions of people in the UAE. Police, transport and the event management authorities

00:18will be out in full force to manage crowds at key locations hosting celebrations.

00:22In downtown Dubai, revellers will enjoy the Light Up 2018 laser show. Asal Khemer will

00:27meanwhile attempt a world record tonight for the largest aerial firework show for New

00:31Year's Eve. Around 12 other locations in the UAE, such as the countdown village Abu Dhabi

00:36and the Al-Majaz waterfront in Sharjah, will also host fireworks and live entertainment.

00:41South Indian superstar Rajin Kanth said today he would float a political party that would

00:45practice spiritual politics. He said the party will contest in all of Tamil Nadu's 234 constituencies

00:51in the next assembly polls, which is scheduled for 2021. He said the decision to contest

00:57in the 2019 parliamentary elections will be taken at an appropriate time.

01:02India's censor board has cleared the controversial film Padmavati. The Bollywood film looks at

01:07the relationship of a Hindu queen and a Muslim ruler and was slated to be released on December

01:111st. The board has asked the name of the film to be changed to Padmavat to reflect that

01:16the source material was an epic poem of the same name.

01:19And finally, the weather today is high across the UAE, with 26 degrees Celsius dropping

01:23to 16 degrees at night.
