00:00People constantly ask me, what is steampunk?

00:15Steampunk is a subculture, a creative community, an aesthetic movement.

00:20It is retrofuturism.

00:21It is the science fiction of the future that never happened.

00:24It's full of grand and glorious, stylish people doing beautiful stuff with technology.

00:30The time where instead of people looking at technology in such a negative way, it was

00:34incredibly optimistic.

00:35There is nothing too far away that we cannot reach.

00:37And so it's full of mad inventors building incredible, fantastic contraptions.

00:40There's adventure, there's excitement.

00:42There's a whimsy to it, and there's a play with the past.

00:45You get the fantasy stuff, and you get the science fiction stuff, and it comes together,

00:47and it's made of awesome.

00:49When you walk down the street in a top hat and spats, you are causing a riot.

00:52You're making a statement.

00:53There's a sense of humor and humanity.

00:55There's kind of a longing for that time when technology was more accessible to people.
