Good day. Welcome to the Gulf News update for Thursday, August 4. Here are the top stories
00:06
at this hour.
00:08
Passengers planning to fly out of Dubai International should first check with their airline before
00:12
travelling to the airport. That is what operator Dubai Airports has told Gulf News after dozens
00:17
of flights were delayed and cancelled this morning. Dubai International is operating
00:21
at reduced capacity with just one runway in use after an Emirates Boeing 777 caught fire
00:26
at the airport on Wednesday. FlyDubai has said it's cancelling 30 flights and is warning
00:31
of delays across its network. Emirates is expecting disruptions and is asking passengers
00:36
to check its website. Flights operating out of Terminal 1 are also facing delays and cancellations.
00:42
An investigation is underway into the cause of the incident. All 300 people on board safely
00:47
escaped the aircraft before it caught fire. A firefighter died tackling the blaze. A woman
00:53
was killed and five others injured by a man with suspected mental health issues who went
00:58
on the rampage with a knife in central London. An attack, police said, could be linked to
01:03
terrorism. Armed police were called after a man with a knife started to attack people
01:07
in London's Russell Square, an elegant park near the site of a 2005 suicide bombing. Police,
01:13
who arrived within five minutes of being called, used a Taser electric shock gun while arresting
01:18
the 19-year-old suspect.
01:21
And finally, the weather. Today's high across the UAE will be 46 degrees Celsius, dropping
01:25
to 35 degrees at night.
01:27
That's all for now. Thanks for watching. A reminder that our next bulletin will be Sunday.
