00:00Deep inside an arctic mountain is a doomsday vault designed to protect data from global

00:10catastrophes.

00:11Why does this provide such a good spot for what you need to do?

00:16First thing, it's on this island, it's on Svalbard.

00:19It's a remote arctic island in the depth of the arctic ocean between the top of Norway

00:24and the North Pole.

00:25So it's very distant and far away from all the crisis and the wars and the terrorism.

00:29And then in this mine, it has some unique environmental characteristics because it's

00:34cold, minus five in the permafrost.

00:37It means things will stay relatively cold for the foreseeable future and the Arctic

00:42World Archive won't need electricity to regulate the temperature and keep the data safe.

00:47It's pitch black down here, isn't it?

00:50It's pitch black.

00:51We don't consume electricity if we don't need to.

00:54So if the polar bear comes in.

00:56I can see the light ahead.
