A jubilant crowd gathered in Dubai to meet the QE2 as she completed her final voyage

00:00We're here in Port Rashid as Akuitu completes her final voyage, carrying a thousand lucky

00:11passengers on her way to Dubai, where hundreds of well-wishers are waiting to give her a

00:16royal welcome.

00:35Why did you come down to see the Akuitu today?

00:38It's a historical event, we'd like to be a part of it.

00:41I mean, I've never seen that big bow before, or ship, so I'd like to see it.

00:47It's actually like I'm looking at it now, it's beautiful.

00:50It goes back to 1987, I was down in Portsmouth, I went to university there for four years

00:55and I saw the Akuitu a few times, you know.

00:59So it's a bit special, so that's the reason I came down, yeah.

01:12We're here at Mina Rashid to greet the Akuitu that has just finished docking, after carrying

01:18a thousand passengers all the way from Southampton in England on her last voyage to her new home

01:24here in Dubai.

01:25As you can hear, a jubilant crowd behind me is here to greet her, accompanied by the Dubai

01:32The Union Jack and the UAE flag are being flown together this evening to welcome the

01:37Akuitu to her new home here in Dubai.
