00:00It took the House two months to officially submit an impeachment complaint, so it cannot

00:04insist on rushing the Senate to begin the trial because the jurors slash senators need

00:09time to review the House's complaint.

00:12In a presser earlier today, Senate President Francis Escudero promised a fair trial on

00:16both sides and allayed fears and worries of a perceived danger of the impeachment process

00:21as we hear the full report from our Daniel Manalistas.

00:28President Francis Escudero thumbs down the idea of asking the President for a special

00:32session as some ex-lawmakers suggest the special session is a remedy for the Senate to start

00:38the impeachment trial of Vice President Sara Duterte immediately and without delay.

00:44But the Senate President have no intentions requesting the President.

00:48I have no intentions of requesting the President for a special session.

00:52This is not one of the reasons for the Senate to call for a special session.

00:56In addition to this, who wants to have a special session and trial before the election?

01:02Who is pro-anti-VP Sara, we will not listen to you.

01:05We will follow the law.

01:07Why should I change the treatment of this impeachment complaint?

01:12This is not special.

01:14This is not different.

01:15We think that this is just an ordinary impeachment complaint against an impeachable officer.

01:22Escudero believes the impeachment trial might commence after the sauna of President Ferdinand

01:30Most likely when the new Congress already enters into its function, that means after

01:35sauna.

01:36Escudero added the impeachment process should not be perceived as a dreadful event because

01:42it is in accordance with the rule of law.

01:45He also addressed a hypothetical scenario in the event those who signed for impeachment,

01:50particularly House lawmakers, are likely to lose from public or voter backlash in the

01:56May midterm polls, might not able to win the coming elections.

02:01Again, that is a subject matter for the impeachment court to decide.

02:05If less than one-third is the winner, the winner, this election is already over, it

02:12will pass to the 20th Congress.

02:14If the proper motion will be made by either side, it will pass to the impeachment court.

02:21For now, a copy of the impeachment complaint has been conveyed to the senators and they

02:27will be given ample time to study and review the complaint.
