Malaysia's Asean chair preparations among the best, says Anwar

Malaysia's preparations as this year’s Asean chair, including managing hundreds of programmes, are being effectively executed by civil servants, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.  Speaking at a meeting with staff from the Prime Minister's Department on Monday (Feb 10), Anwar said the management of Asean is not a matter of pride or position, but one that reflects the capability of civil servants in  ensuring the smooth administration of the country. 00:00The next thing is that we will also be the host of ASEAN.

00:08This is not a matter of a low-level office,

00:11a matter of pride.

00:13But it is our opportunity to ensure that we,

00:17meaning the officials, are able to manage

00:36Yesterday, I happened to try

00:44an EV car that was given as a gift

00:48by the President of Turkey.

00:51He gave it to the Prime Minister,

00:53but he gave it to me, to the country.

00:55It is not mine.

00:56I can use it as long as I am the Prime Minister.

00:58After that, I have to give it back to the country.

01:00And if there is a need,

01:02if ASEAN wants to borrow it, it is fine.

01:06So I tried,

01:08because I wanted to guide the President,

01:11using his left-hand drive.

01:13So I tried.

01:15I drove to Sriperdana,

01:17and on Sunday,

01:20at around 1.30 or 2,

01:25I saw dozens

01:28of officials,

01:30from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

01:32the JPM,

01:34the police,

01:36and many others,

01:38who were on duty,

01:40and smiling,

01:42to prepare for the event

01:45tomorrow,

01:47for the President of Turkey.

01:49This is not in the news,

01:51that on Sunday,

01:53dozens,

01:55if not hundreds of staff,

01:57from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs,

01:59are still working,

02:01to make sure that the country's reputation is good,

02:03that the preparations are neat,

02:05and that people can see

02:07that our level of communication is very high.

02:09So I salute to all the officials

02:11who are doing a very good job.

02:17I chose to say this,

02:19because hundreds of thousands,

02:21in a department,

02:23and sometimes,

02:25good things like this never get coverage,

02:27in the media,

02:29or social media.

02:31What happens is,

02:33some cases of negligence,

02:35or mistakes,

02:37there is nothing wrong with making some mistakes,

02:39but it is not fair,

02:41to not report

02:43the inaction.

02:45I saw,

02:47I believe,

02:49for Sri Fadhilah,

02:51our meetings,

02:53our events,

02:55are among the best,

02:57that I have seen.

02:59Even though it is not as luxurious

03:01and as great as some countries,

03:03sometimes foreign guests are luxurious,

03:05but the level of communication,

03:07and discipline,

03:09and neatness,

03:11that makes me very proud.
