APM saves local woman in critical need of dialysis amid floods in Sabah

As floodwaters rose around her home in Kampung Ulu Mawao in Membakut, Sabah, Maria Alex laid helpless, hoping for a miracle to get her to her life-saving dialysis treatment.  Thankfully, her prayers were answered when a team of four Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) personnel responded to the distress call, braving the rising waters to reach her home. 00:00A team of Malaysian Civil Defence Force personnel came to 48-year-old Maria Alex's rescue in

00:08Membakut, Sabah on Saturday.

00:10They braved the rising floodwaters to reach Alex's home in Kampung Ulumawau and sent

00:15her to the Beaufort District Hospital.

00:17Alex, who is partially paralysed, needed urgent medical attention and her dialysis treatment

00:23at the hospital.

00:25Authorities said Membakut was declared a disaster area at 3pm and residents had been

00:29evacuated to temporary relief centres due to the worsening flood situation in the area.

00:35As of 4pm, 721 displaced residents from 212 families were housed in five relief centres

00:44in Beaufort, Kinabatangan and Tambunan.

00:47Beaufort recorded the highest number, with 430 evacuees.

00:51Over the past two weeks, Sabah and Sarawak have been hit by floods.

00:56Authorities said the situation in Sarawak had improved with the number of evacuees

01:00continuing to decline to 3,454.
