Taylor Swift's impact on the NFL by the numbers

You may love her, you may hate her. You can't deny Taylor Swift brings some serious viewership to any event.

00:00Like it or not, the Kansas City Chiefs are headed back to the Super Bowl, and so is Taylor Swift.

00:04A study from LendingTree found the pop stars' appearances in NFL games impacted how a quarter of Americans feel about the NFL.

00:1114% of those surveyed said they've gotten more interested in the league, while 10% said Swift left them changing channels.

00:17And then you add in the Chiefs themselves, with standout stars like Patrick Mahomes and Travis Kelce.

00:22So what happens when you put the most watched people in music and sports in one broadcast?

00:27We got that answer in 2024.

00:28A lot more people watch the game.

00:30Your average regular season NFL game garners about 17.9 million viewers.

00:35And then Swift shows up, launching a rumor mill that saw 27 million views for the Chiefs' match against the Bears on September 24th of 2023.

00:42Excluding streaming events and playoff games, viewership was up 40% on average when Taylor graced the VIP suite.

00:49Apex Marketing even put a dollar sign on Swift's attendance.

00:52They told Front Office Sports she made the Chiefs an estimated $331.5 million in brand value simply by showing up.

00:59Not enough to buy into the Taylor effect.

01:01Okay, then let's take Taylor off the table and look at the 2022 NFL regular season.

01:06The most watched game, the Chiefs vs. the Cincinnati Bengals, made its way to just over 25 million TVs.

01:12To compare, the Chiefs averaged 18.6 million views per game that year.

01:17The 2022 season ended with 115 million people tuning in to Super Bowl 57, watching the Chiefs beat the Philadelphia Eagles.

01:24And that brings us back to 2024.

01:26The Chiefs returned for their second Super Bowl in a row, but now Taylor and her fan base are cheering from the leechers.

01:32Super Bowl 58 becomes the most watched television event since the Apollo 11 moon landing in 1969.

01:38Nielsen estimates over 200 million tuned in during at least one part of the broadcast.

01:43Maybe the numbers peaked to see the halftime performance of eight-time Grammy winner Usher or catch one of the $7 million 30-second ads.

01:49Who knows?

01:50But the Super Bowl reigns as TV's biggest night of the year.

01:53And the Swift-Kelsey love story continues.

01:55So this year could look like just another blank space in the record books.
