00:00PhilHealth welcomed the inauguration of its new president and CEO, Dr. Edwin Mercado.

00:08They are positive that Mercado will continue the success of the agency,

00:12particularly in implementing universal healthcare.

00:22The new president of the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation, PhilHealth,

00:27is President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr.

00:29Dr. Edwin Mercado was appointed as President and Chief Executive Officer of PhilHealth,

00:36following his oath in front of President Marcos in Malacanang.

00:40Mercado replaced Emmanuel Ledesma, Jr., who served as President of PhilHealth for more than a year.

00:48PhilHealth's new president has 35 years of experience in hospital management.

00:54He is the Vice Chairman of Mercado General Hospital Qualimed Health Network since March 2021

01:01and a regular faculty lecturer at the Ateneo School of Medicine and Public Health.

01:05He studies the expenses of each member for the global coverage of inpatient services

01:11and encourages the use of artificial intelligence in community health workers

01:16in the distribution of primary care to the injured.

01:20PhilHealth followed Mercado's commitment to have a deep experience in the medical field.

01:26The agency is positive that PhilHealth's initiatives will continue,

01:32particularly the implementation of universal healthcare

01:35that provides decent medical services to Filipinos.

01:40Health Secretary Theodoro Herbosa welcomed Mercado

01:46and thanked Ledesma for his service.

01:49Meanwhile, the former PNP Major General Isagani Neres

01:56was appointed by the President as the new leader of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency or PDEA.
