Jason Oppenheim Weighs in On New Diddy Allegations

Jason Oppenheim is sounding off on federal prosecutors' latest allegations against Sean "Diddy" Combs, saying the indictment makes it sound like it's illegal for men to lavish significant others with expensive items.

00:01which means I do think we are gonna figure out,

00:04at some point we're gonna hear who they are,

00:06and it sounds like they're probably gonna testify.

00:08I mean, I've got a lot to say on this one,

00:11because first of all, if he's being photographed

00:13and going out to red carpet events with these women,

00:15you don't probably do that with a prostitute,

00:18I would imagine, it's more of a girlfriend.

00:20Also, this seems like a really thin case.

00:23I mean, honestly, the crime would be

00:25if he wasn't doing that stuff for a girlfriend.

00:28You know?

00:29Really, though.

00:29You mean the paying for homes?

00:30Yes, I mean, if you're wealthy and you have a girlfriend,

00:32you don't wanna take her to dinner,

00:34buy her a car, buy her a purse, buy her clothes.

00:37I mean, are you really gonna criminalize

00:38and get in your plane flights?

00:41I mean, if they really have a case against Diddy,

00:43this is embarrassing, that they are trying to criminalize

00:48financial help towards a girlfriend.

00:50You also raise an interesting point

00:52in that they've only come up with three identified victims

00:55over this long, long investigation

00:58where they're alleging a vast criminal enterprise

01:00with sort of implying that this went on for decades

01:04and there would be scores and scores of women.

01:06To have three does seem a little bit thin,

01:08and they also had to widen the time horizon

01:11because in the initial indictment,

01:12they said it went on from 2008 to 2024.

01:15They've now said it goes on from 2004 to 2024,

01:19which at least lends you to sort of think

01:22that these additional victims-

01:23So you're saying like over 20 years?

01:24Yeah.

01:25You're saying over 20 years, Derek,

01:27that there are only three victims.

01:29It seems thin, but we should also point out, Derek,

01:33this doesn't mean that's all they have, right?

01:36I mean-

01:37This absolutely doesn't mean that.

01:38The Southern District of New York

01:39is one of the finest prosecutorial bodies in the country,

01:43so they've got a strong case

01:44that they wanna bring against him.

01:45They may be sort of slow playing it a little bit,

01:49but eventually they do have to show their cards

01:51because Diddy has a right to defend himself

01:53and whatever people are sort of testifying against him

01:57as victims, he has a right to confront them

01:58and cross-examine them.

01:59So we'll have to see how big this gets

02:01before the actual trial date in May.

02:03And also, let's see if these women

02:04wanna be identified as prostitutes.

02:07I mean, my guess is-

02:08I know what you're saying,

02:10but at least the people that they're listing as victims,

02:13these three women,

02:14I would think that this means that the prosecutors

02:17have spoken with them and have secured their testimony.

02:20So it seems like they're gonna come forward

02:22and testify for the prosecution,

02:27which, yes, would mean that they are admitting

02:29that they're gonna say in court that he prostituted us.

02:34Yeah, you're probably right on that.

02:36But I mean, you're criminalizing half the relationships

02:40in Los Angeles if you're saying that it's prostitution

02:44and that you're committing a criminal ring

02:47if you're doing nice things for your girlfriend.

02:49So it'd be interesting to watch this play out.
