00:00
And some of the most popular names in music
00:01
are up for several awards.
00:03
Yeah, it's said to be a showdown
00:05
on music's biggest night.
00:08
This ain't Texas, ain't no holding.
00:12
Well, Beyonce leads the way with 11 nominations,
00:15
but she's never won Album of the Year.
00:17
Can you believe that?
00:17
It could be tough this year, though,
00:19
with competition from Sabrina Carpenter, Charli XCX,
00:22
Billie Eilish, and Chaplerone, just to name a few.
00:25
So, Reed, joining us right now is Erin Axelson,
00:28
on-air personality from Live 105.
00:30
Hey, good morning.
00:31
Okay, how are you?
00:32
Thanks for hanging out with us.
00:33
And are you gearing up for the awards show?
00:36
Yeah, I'm excited.
00:37
I'm excited that we have a couple of Bay Area artists
00:40
in the mix, Metallica and Green Day.
00:42
So that's great.
00:44
And Erin, you know, we love radio people.
00:46
Gianna and I both started off in radio.
00:48
So you were among friends here.
00:51
What do you think Beyonce has never won this award?
00:54
And do you think she's got the wind at her back this time?
00:58
I think so.
00:58
I mean, she's just had a phenomenal year
01:01
and so multifaceted with the country album and pop,
01:05
and she can just do it all.
01:06
So I think this is a good chance for her.
01:09
But think about in the history of the Grammys,
01:10
there's a lot of iconic artists that have never won.
01:13
I mean, think about Bob Marley, Kiss,
01:17
the Ramones, Journey, Beach Boys.
01:20
So you never know how it's gonna pan out,
01:23
but I think she has a good chance this year.
01:25
That's actually a very good point.
01:26
You're right, there are some pretty big artists
01:28
who have never walked away
01:29
with one of those coveted trophies.
01:30
So let's talk about some of our Bay Area peeps
01:33
that are gonna be there.
01:34
We've got Metallica up for a few awards.
01:35
We've got Green Day as well.
01:37
How are their chances looking?
01:39
I think they both, I mean,
01:41
Metallica are just titans of their category,
01:44
titans of heavy metal,
01:47
and they're such massive icons in their world,
01:49
and they constantly reinvent themselves.
01:51
I think they have a really good chance.
01:53
And Green Day up for what, three nominations, I think?
01:56
I mean, it's just incredible to see what they've done
01:59
from humble beginnings at Pinole Valley,
02:02
at Pinole High School in East Bay.
02:04
And I used to go see Green Day play
02:06
at a punk club called Gilman Street in Berkeley
02:09
when I was a young East Bay punk rocker.
02:11
So it's been really exciting to see them transcend,
02:14
and 14 albums out now,
02:16
and they have 13 number one songs at Alternative Radio,
02:20
which is just incredible to see what they've done
02:24
and their storied history as well.
02:27
And it's great, they're still a Bay Area band.
02:29
They've never left.
02:30
They're still in the East Bay,
02:30
which I just love that about them.
02:32
They're homegrown and determined to stay that way.
02:34
And we saw them in that benefit concert
02:36
helping the people who are ravaged by LA wildfires.
02:39
It's also really important, I think, to mention
02:40
that there's gonna be some tributes and performances planned
02:43
to help raise money for those wildfire victims.
02:46
It was pretty incredible last night.
02:47
They performed in LA,
02:48
and Billie Eilish joined them on stage
02:51
and did a Green Day song last night on Earth.
02:54
It was goosebumps.
02:56
Pretty special to see that.
02:58
It is.
