What do the Cowboys need to change about their free agency approach?

Stephen Jones mentioned yesterday after Brian Schottenheimer's introductory press conference that the team will re-examine how they approach free agency this offseason. If you were in charge of the Cowboys' free agency agenda, what would you change about it? Kevin, Cory & Mike go over what they'd change and if the Cowboys will ever actually change their penny-pinching ways.

00:21and he went on to kind of cut right more to the chase of, look, we'll take an examination

00:28of the way that we do free agency.

00:30So Corey, you decided to do some of the legwork, jump ahead and do an examination for the Cowboys.

00:38What can you tell us?

00:39What have you learned?

00:40All right.

00:41Let me ask a question first.

00:42Okay.

00:43What is, and I want everybody out there to think about this.

00:47What is your problem with the way the Cowboys approach free agency?

00:51My problem has always been that they've always tried to find a gym out of the designer bin

00:57at the Goodwill.

00:58Okay.

00:59You know, they're like, Hey, we're going to go in here and we're going to, to every once

01:02in a while, they'll get a guy who's passed his prime and might give you three good games.

01:08It just seems like the talent level is low.

01:11Now I didn't go into this looking for information to prove that the talent's low.

01:16I went into it thinking that already, and then let the information tell me this story.

01:21So I have about two and a half pages of information to dive into.

01:27I just want to start by saying, I think I'm probably the same spot as you are.

01:33I think they inflate their own draft statistics by signing their own players to sometimes

01:38not really market representative contracts.

01:42And then they make this continued argument that they don't need free agency because of

01:47that.

01:48When I'm like, that's a flawed argument from the jump.

01:49What's my biggest issue with the Cowboys and free agency?

01:52Yes.

01:53Yeah.

01:54So the two people that are most in charge, Jerry and Steven are partying and not watching

01:59who is a free agent.

02:01What do they do?

02:02So the two decision makers have no clue who is a free agent and what they actually do

02:09or don't do.

02:10So they're reliant on somebody else.

02:12What other team has that set up in all of professional sports?

02:17Yeah.
