00:12The survey found that over half of people in Liverpool are ashamed of their fruit and

00:18veg waste, with bananas, potatoes and carrots topping the list of binned produce.

00:23I eat a lot of fruit every day, most of all the time, every morning. Grapefruit, a little

00:32bit of grapefruit, but it's mostly watermelon.

00:35I try and get my five a day in, fruit and veg. The missus makes sure I do, even though

00:42sometimes I might laugh. Going back to when I was on my own, I certainly didn't, but

00:46I think it's important, as you get older, to be eating the right things rather than

00:51convenience stuff and certainly not processed stuff.

00:54Yeah, I do throw it away. We're terrible, you get it. After it's done its purpose, we

00:59just tend to throw it away. We don't even use it at all, to be honest with you.

01:0246% of the 2,000 Britons polled confessed they believe the way they store their food

01:07has something to do with how quickly it goes off. 57% admitted they're not confident they

01:13understand exactly where and how to store food to keep it fresh for longer.

01:18No, no, I eat everything, the lot, the lot, you always eat a lot of it. You can get a

01:25small melon and you don't waste it, it only lasts a couple of days.

01:29Every time you go shopping, you find you throw more out because the sell-by date's gone up,

01:33so you're in an ever-ending circle of just spending money all the time.

01:37I make a conscious effort just to buy what we need and not waste any, because it all

01:42costs, when you think of it, it's money going in the bin rather than food, let's put it

01:46that way.

01:47We're wasting food and look, there's people starving in the world, you know, people starving.

01:52Research show at least nine pieces of fruit and veg are binned each week, totalling 468

01:58a year.
