Warner Bros. Discovery’s CNN plans to lay off hundreds of employees Thursday as the company shifts its focus toward a global digital audience, according to sources. The layoffs come alongside changes to CNN’s linear TV lineup and the expansion of digital subscription products. CEO Mark Thompson recently disclosed a $70 million investment from Warner Bros. Discovery to enhance CNN’s digital operations, including hiring data scientists and product developers. In October, CNN introduced a digital paywall. Most high-profile employees under contract will not be affected. CNN employs approximately 3,500 people globally.
