00:00Well the European Union wants to work with the United States. That was the

00:03message from European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. Trump has

00:07warned that he's looking to reverse America's trade deficit with the EU

00:11either through tariffs or raising energy exports. Well let's talk to our

00:15correspondent Will Denslow who is in Brussels. So Will, what have European

00:19leaders been saying?

00:23Well European leaders would have been listening to Donald Trump's comments

00:28from the inauguration saying, really laying out his America First strategy

00:33saying that he wants to see America be the envy of the rest of the world. So

00:37really the calculation for European leaders is where does the EU sit with

00:42that? How does this relationship go forward? It is a relationship trade-wise

00:47that accounts around 30% of global trade up at over one and a half trillion

00:53dollars per year and the EU's message has been that this is an incredibly

00:58intertwined relationship and essentially they've been saying that they're

01:03looking for a win-win scenario. The real question is how does that fit in with

01:08Donald Trump's vision for America First? Well when asked by Donald Trump what

01:13this relationship could mean when it comes to the threat of tariffs of up to

01:1820% on goods coming from Europe, Donald Trump says well if Europe takes in more

01:24liquefied natural gas that would be a good start. We've seen European leaders

01:29responding to Donald Trump saying that their priority is they want

01:33conversations, they want to work with the US administration when it comes to areas

01:39that are mutually beneficial. But a clear takeaway from Ursula von der Leyen,

01:44the Commission President, was she said that she wants to be pragmatic and that

01:49European interests are of course of paramount to her. So very much we're

01:55seeing Europe trying to tread somewhat of a tightrope keeping the US on side

02:00whether that means bringing in more liquefied natural gas but the EU making

02:04it very clear that they're also looking at garnering other relationships. Ursula

02:08von der Leyen essentially said that Europe is open for business and is

02:12looking to work with anyone where their interests align. Will thank you very much
