00:00Coming to Telugu cinema, as one of the strongest voices that I've observed in the recent past,
00:05while you've always maintained, and I know people in the industry who always say this,
00:09that you're a very closed person, you're a very private person in general,
00:11but you don't shy away from taking things head on when you have to.
00:14With respect to Telugu cinema taking charge nationally and making it really big,
00:20most of the national stars that I can speak of today have been from Telugu cinema in the recent past.
00:25What do you think we're getting right and what do you think we're getting wrong?
00:29By wrong, I'm not fishing for a controversy here.
00:32Rather, what I'm looking at is, the bigger you get, more eyeballs on you and harsher the criticism, right?
00:38Do you believe, content-wise, what is it that we need to sort of watch out for as a threat in the near future?
00:45See, there's nothing, you know, see the North and South debate, for me, if you actually ask me,
00:51it's a very, very silly thing, because it's all Indian cinema.
00:55100%
00:55For me, it's Indian cinema.
00:57Now, why is it that Telugu cinema is doing very well up North, if you ask?
01:03Because these movies are getting visibility because they are getting theatres to get released there.
01:10This is not an overnight sensation of phenomena, which happened.
01:14But in the last 15 to 18 years, all the movies which have been dubbed,
01:20all the South films which have been dubbed to Hindi, the audience were like,
01:24okay, we can watch it on TV, we can watch it on YouTube.
01:27Oh, this movie is nice.
01:28Why is it that most of the country today watch Korean series and movies?
01:33Oh, Korean drama, yes.
01:34And you love it.
01:35You know, sometimes you don't even understand the language, but you see the emotion, you read the subtitles, you love it.
01:41So you can't suddenly say, you can't compare Korean movies with Indian movies and say, you know, they're doing a great job.
01:46You guys are not doing, is Korean movie a threat?
01:49It's not.
01:49It's today, audience are able to appreciate good cinema, irrespective of the language barrier, and they're having a release there.
01:59Now, if movies do not get, for example, Hindi movies do not get a release here in South,
02:05they will never be able to appreciate good Hindi films.
02:09The same way if good South films get a theatrical release there, they will never be able to get an appreciation.
02:17And all of a sudden, now it's no longer a barrier for actors.
02:22The lines are blurred, you know, the borders are blurred.
02:25Why don't you cast that guy?
02:27That guy is good.
02:28You know, why is Junior Nitya acting with Hrithik Roshan?
02:33You know, because when two of the biggest stars of the country get together, you're going to see fireworks.
02:39So that is how the future is going to be.
02:42You know, people who do not understand cinema or do not understand the trend will have this debate about South films are doing better, North films are not doing.
02:53That debate is, that debate for me doesn't make sense.
02:56If it really, you know, I'll give you one example like Avengers.
03:00For most of the common people, they all think, oh, they're all Americans, they're all doing.
03:04But not many people realize, you know, Thor is an Australian actor.
03:11Yes.
03:12Yeah, to bring him on here, Wolverine is an Australian actor, Hugh Jackman.
03:17Yes.
03:18Okay.
03:18And the Deadpool Ryan Reynolds is not even an American, he's a Canadian.
03:23Yes.
03:23Okay, of course, Canada is now another state of United States if Trump has it.
03:27But yeah, Ryan Reynolds is a Canadian.
03:30So the question arises that you shouldn't think about where the actor is from.
03:36You should look at just the movie and go on with it.
03:38But people, you know, would like to have the debate.
03:41This will die down in the next year or two.
03:44You know, it'll be fine, totally fine.
03:46The second question that I come to when it comes to content.
03:50Lately, there is this sense among viewers across the country, not just Telugu viewers for that matter,
03:56that sometimes the sequel is maybe forced, right?
04:00There's this trend of sequels running, maybe it's way more commercially viable, etc., etc.
04:05But do you believe that every movie doesn't require a sequel?
04:09I mean, sometimes is it just a forced thing that comes in from the production and that says,
04:14okay, maybe we'll make more money or the story doesn't essentially demand a second movie all the time.
04:20I don't know.
04:21But most of the filmmakers, if they believe that there is a potential for a second part, why not?
04:26It'll go on.
04:27So I do believe that it can happen.
04:30Got it.
