How can EU competitiveness be fostered during a Trump presidency?

00:16The new Trump administration is a huge opportunity for Europe because Europe needs to and I'm

00:22convinced will get its act together to have more independence to be even further integrated

00:27to complete some of the big projects that were already there for quite a while so that

00:33we are our own continent and do not need to rely on the US as an ally, as a friend.

00:40Donald Trump's inauguration speech did not address global issues suggesting an isolationist

00:46agenda ahead.

00:48Europe has been gearing up for a Trump presidency with a focus on unity in action.

00:54We need more investments in the field of security and defence.

00:58If we want to have more influence on our own future, if we don't want to be a playground

01:06for the others, then it means that it is time to act.

01:09It means that we have to regulate better, maybe we have to regulate less on the one

01:13hand and on the other hand we have to integrate more.

01:16The speakers at the Euronews event in Davos insisted that the European Union should invest

01:21in digitalisation and AI if it wants to remain competitive.

01:28What we would like to do is to kind of be an alternative to Europe in many ways and

01:33of course obviously continuing what we have been doing for the last few decades, contributing

01:37to Europe's digitalisation and I think also help Europe to basically prepare for AI, become

01:44AI-ready.

01:46Global political and economic leaders are gathering this week at the World Economic

01:51Forum in Davos, Switzerland, to discuss the most pressing global issues.
