The dream of Uttarakhand Metro has now become like a golden dream.

For the last 8 years, Uttarakhand Metro has been running only in papers.

Till date, not even an inch of work has been done on the ground.

In 2017, when the Metro was announced in Uttarakhand, people's dreams were blown away.

But these dreams could not be realized.

The situation was such that in Dehradun, Rishikesh and Haridwar,

there were a lot of discussions about the Metro project, but the result was zero.

Paperwork on the Metro, from DPR to surveys were done, but the matter could not be made.

After which, the Light Rail Transit was added.

Even on that, not much work could be done.

Then there was the issue of Ropeway, which also did not succeed.

Finally, the issue of running the Metro is being discussed.

Since the city of Dehradun is congested and the roads are narrow,

it will be difficult to build the Metro.

So, we were told to examine how to build the Ropeway.

So, we started the process of building the Ropeway in the city.

We also prepared a DPR for that.

In this, we made a DPR for the Ropeway on these corridors.

But then the decision was that the DPR for the Ropeway is not good for the city.

So, we focused on the Metro.

And since the cost was increasing, in the middle of this, at the end of 2017, in 2018,

the Indian government, the Ministry of Housing, the nodal ministry,

issued a new technology specification, Metro Neo,

which is similar to the Metro, but is based on rubber tyres.

The cost, the benchmark cost they gave, was very less.

It was almost half of that.

So, it was decided that the new technology that the ministry has introduced,

why not make a DPR for this?

So, taking the remaining data, we made an in-house DPR

for the Metro Neo on both the corridors of Dehradun.

And in 2021, we sent this to the Indian government for sanction.

But the Indian government has not yet accepted it.

The reason for this is that Dehradun is a very small city in terms of population.

And the Metro that has been built so far is in metropolitan cities,

whose population is around 30 lakhs to 40 lakhs.

The Metro has just started being built there.

Since 2021, the proposal for the Dehradun Metro Neo has been pending in the centre.

In such a situation, Uttarakhand is now in a position to bring the Metro at its expense.

Now, recently, the state government gave us this indication

One is that the state government should give all the money.

We can pay this much by taking out our operation cost.

The second model is that the state government should give 40%

and we will take a loan of 60% from a company,

from a bank or from LIC or from HODCO.

So, we have come to the conclusion that if the government gives 40%,

We will take that loan from our operation, which will give us money and revenue.

We will be able to repay the loan even after taking out the operation cost.

This proposal has been passed by the board of Uttarakhand Metro.
