00:04People started focusing on agriculture and horticulture.

00:11I would like to tell you that most of the residents of district Kulgam, especially in Coimbatore,

00:17have set up nurseries there and along with time, they have left traditional fruit plants

00:24and now they are focusing on foreign varieties like the Gala variety.

00:31They are now providing foreign varieties of their roots and plants to the people in the market.

00:38One benefit of this is that the dependency will also end.

00:43And fortunately, this will also help in increasing the standard rates in the market.

00:51We would like to know more about this from the people who are associated with this.

01:00Actually, the shift from rice to apple, everyone is looking at the benefits.

01:07As far as you know, the apple industry is one of the biggest industries in Kashmir.

01:18We felt that there is more profit in this as compared to rice.

01:22That is why we have shifted from rice to apple.

01:25Now that there are new technologies and varieties,

01:30the farmers and the nursery owners are also getting a lot of benefits.

01:39So, as you can see, people are going behind the varieties because there are new varieties every year.

01:46So, there is a lot of profit in this.

01:47This is a revolution of high-density orchards.

01:51We have imported high-density orchards from abroad.

01:55So, people saw that there is more profit in this and there is less hard work.

02:00And this comes on fruiting quickly.

02:04So, people immediately shifted from traditional orchards to new high-density orchards.

02:15So, there is investment and profit within 2-3 years.

02:20The varieties that we sell the most this year are Tirekis and Shiniko Red.

02:27Then we have Mema Gala, Dark Baron Gala, Fensum Gala.

02:33Among the delicious varieties, we have SS2, SS3, Z1.

02:38We also had RDLA1, which has already been sold.

02:42Apart from apples, there was a lot of demand for cherries this year.

02:50High-density cherries come on rootstock, particularly on coal-to-rootstock.

02:56The varieties on coal-to-rootstock are Stella and Diamond.

03:00There are a lot of varieties, so there is a lot of demand for them.

03:06If no effort is made to import the roots or to plant the imported plants,

03:13then locally grafted plants and rootstock can also be planted here.

03:24In Kulgam, there is Rs. 100 crore in this industry.

03:31Two years ago, when we brought the roots from Italy, we cultivated them here.

03:38We have grown the plants here.

03:40It is not expensive to grow from Italy.

03:41It is Rs. 200 cheaper to grow from Italy.

03:44If the price of an Italian plant is Rs. 800-870,

03:47we can grow it for Rs. 400, Rs. 370, Rs. 330.

03:51People don't have to go abroad.

03:53We have available plant material.

03:56It is expensive there and cheaper here.

03:59Kulgam was known as the rice bowl of Jammu and Kashmir.

04:04But now, our area, Coimbatore, is full of nurseries.

04:07If you come to Coimbatore, you will find a lot of nurseries here.

04:13You can see how many youth are working here.

04:16There are at least 20-30 people working here.

04:20They work in the field and also in the nursery.

04:24I have been working here for 7 years.

04:27I don't want the youth to prefer a government job.

04:31You should start your own business.

04:35If you can work, you will earn something.

04:48They are trying to sell this sector.

05:05and the farmers are provided with a standard rate.
