Here are some safety tips to remember during winter storm preparations.

00:03whether that be the network or an AccuWeather.com or having the app,

00:06you've been prepared for the winter storms. But if you're just getting caught up, here's some

00:12safety tips to remember during winter storm preparations. Helpful to get those supplies

00:18ahead of time right before the snow starts, because officials always say, stay off the roads

00:22if you can. So purchase supplies before the snow starts. If you're a little bit late into that,

00:26hopefully you can still safely get out. If you do end up having to remove snow from your roof,

00:32make sure you're doing so safely. And it's really great to be charging those devices,

00:36as oftentimes with big snowstorms and ice, we see power outages that can last four days.

00:41Being prepared to maybe not even be able to travel, whether that's flight cancellations

00:46or road closures. And if you do have a generator, make sure you're using those

00:50in well-ventilated areas. So the advice would be, right, don't go on the roads if you don't have to,

00:55if you can stay home. But we understand that people may have to get out and about,

00:59whether that be for work or any, hopefully, emergencies that we can avoid. But we know

01:03that people will have to go out. So driving slowly and cautiously and knowing how your

01:07specific vehicle, whether that be all-wheel drive, front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive,

01:12being prepared for that in the snow. So reducing your speed, as you should with any kind of weather,

01:17leaving enough space between you and other drivers. Avoid locking up your brakes and never

01:21power up those hills. So that's when it comes to driving and vehicles. But how about preparing

01:26your home, especially those pipes that we're talking about, so much cold in areas that maybe

01:31don't see it as much, that aren't as well-equipped. Very good to be removing your drain and storing

01:35your outdoor hoses. Removing and draining, I should say, your outdoor hoses. And letting

01:39that cold water drip from faucets can often be helpful. And if you were leaving your home or

01:44trying to conserve energy, never leave the heat lower than 55 degrees.
