How does Mateo Joseph get out of Leeds scoring slump?

Graham Smyth explains what Leeds veterans Brian Deane and Lee Chapman told him about young forward Mateo Joseph's barren run in front of goal

00:00Just going back on to Matteo Joseph though, you spoke this week to two former

00:10lead strikers. You wanted to speak to others but they refused to return your calls because

00:16you know they see Graham Smith pop up on their phone and they just immediately red button.

00:20But Brian Dean and Lee Chapman were kind enough to give you a little bit of their time

00:25and they had some very interesting things to say about Matteo and his current form.

00:30The struggles that he's having, their experience as a young striker and how

00:35ultimately you get out of that slump.

00:38I thought what Brian Dean said was particularly good advice about how he would watch videos of

00:43himself a lot and the good things that he did, scoring goals or whatever it was,

00:48being involved in goals and really reinforce positives. The whole power of thinking I did

00:53that, I did all those things, I can do that again and building into a performance right

01:00from the warm-up, making sure that everything you do is right, your first pass is right,

01:05your first touch is right and just setting yourself up, building stepping stones to

01:10set yourself up to score a goal. Lee Chapman talked about, he was a bit more rudimentary,

01:18his advice was basically just extra finishing drills and the coach can help and put an arm

01:25around him. In amongst all of that, Lee Chapman really was in no mood to sugarcoat it. He was

01:30saying if he was 17, 18 you'd give him more time but he's 21 now. Some Leeds fans thought

01:34that was harsh because of Matteo Joseph's age and where he is in his career but also

01:39Lee Chapman scored 200 career goals, something like that, and scored a lot of goals at the top level.
