00:00Live from the GMA Network Center, this is 24 Horas.
00:12Good evening, Luzon Visayas and Mindanao.
00:18President Bongbong Marcos delivered support to the recommendation to declare a food security emergency on rice.
00:27The government has already done all it can to control the price of rice.
00:31And if this is implemented, the National Food Authority will be able to export thousands of bags of rice to the market to lower the price.
00:40This is Bernadette Reyes.
00:46President Bongbong Marcos himself said that everything has been done to lower the price of rice, but this is still not happening.
00:53That is why the President has already delivered support to the recommendation to declare the Department of Agriculture a food security emergency on rice.
01:03Well, we are still waiting for the recommendation of the Price Coordinating Council.
01:08But maybe next week, the DA will formally accept the recommendation.
01:15And the recommendation, I believe, is going to be to declare an emergency.
01:20If a food security emergency is declared, the National Food Authority will be able to export the buffer stock of rice to the market.
01:30If this happens, the price of rice will be lowered.
01:34The reason that we are doing this is we have already done everything to lower the price of rice, but the market is not being allowed to work properly.
01:45The demand and supply curve is not being followed because until now, even if you lower all the inputs, the sales are still high.
01:55And so we have to force that price down and we have to make sure that the market works properly.
02:01According to the NFA, around 700,000 bags of rice are in their warehouse right now.
02:07In addition, the impacted rice is not yet growing.
02:11If we follow the Food Blast method and we heal all of that, the whole country will have around 5.7 million bags.
02:22Now, for calamities, we know that we will not be able to get rid of it.
02:29We will calculate how much we will export. We will not export all of it.
02:35Our Kadiwa kiosks are already there.
02:38That is one of the plans. All of the former retailers of the NFA, the former latest accredited retailers, they will be the first to be affected.
02:50If ever it will be lowered.
02:52Another program of the Department of Agriculture will continue to have rice.
02:58Here in Murphy Market in Cabao, Quezon City, rice for all has been lowered to Php 38 per kilo since today.
03:05This is what the rice looks like up close.
03:08If we call this rice 25%, it means that 25% of the bottles are broken.
03:14Aside from that, they are also selling here in this place worth of rice.
03:18This is the 100% broken rice.
03:21For us, it's hard. It's good for us on budget.
03:27In Pasay City Public Market, Php 38 per kilo of rice will also arrive today.
03:32It's good. It's expensive. And it's cheap.
03:35This is our bestseller here.
03:38The Department of Agriculture also assured that the supply of cheap rice is sufficient.
