00:04The prestigious award is considered the Nobel for Educators.

00:07They're already talking about this as the Nobel for Teachers.

00:10It was a prize for teaching excellence.

00:12A million dollar prize recognizing an outstanding contribution to the teaching profession.

00:16One of the most coveted and high profile teaching excellence awards.

00:21All of us care about education, care about creating a peaceful world.

00:26We must work together and do whatever it takes to put the importance of teachers at the forefront.

00:34That's why we have created a million dollar prize to find the greatest teacher in the world.

00:43Like all of you, our foundation believes in the power of teachers to transform students' lives.

00:51We're focused on ensuring that every classroom has an effective, well-supported teacher.

00:57And on empowering teachers to shape and build their profession.

01:01When each of us thinks about what we can do in life, chances are we can do it because of a teacher.

01:09Being a great teacher requires resilience, ingenuity and a generous heart.

01:30You cannot be a teacher, an educator, unless you understand the world you're educating kids for.

01:40The more we help each other and learn from each other, the better off not just our nations will be,

01:44but most importantly our children will have a much better chance in life.

01:47The key to unlocking a lifelong love of learning is a teacher.

01:52That is why I'm delighted to be part of this event that honors teachers everywhere.

01:56I also congratulate the Varkey Foundation for your commitment to education throughout the world.

02:02The most important thing this project has done is to reawaken the world's appreciation of the importance of teachers.

02:10Children inspire me the most. They can tell me what they need and I can help to integrate it in my lesson.

02:16They're learning to get the voice when they're still very young, so we hope they're learning to also be global citizens.

02:23My goal is to be able to give them the tools that they need to be masters of their own destiny.
