00:44It's been a very frustrating Dakar for us, and to not be a part of the overall is really
00:58not the best.
01:14We are here with almost two hours leading, so yeah, what else do you have in the middle
01:19of Dakar?
01:20I've got a 15 minute gap so far, so it's good, I'll try and keep building it every day.
01:28A long special after the rest day, 829km, stage 6 has dirt tracks, sand, and a long
01:33transfer in the middle, but no Kevin Benavides.
01:36For me it's been very hard to make this decision, but I think it's the right decision, there
01:43was a lot more to lose than to win.
01:45I couldn't drive the way I want to, it's been very hard, I've suffered a lot.
01:52I think the second week is going to be just as tough, so we're just going to try and keep
01:55consistent until, at least until the June stages, and then at the June stages start
01:59putting the hammer down.
02:01But instead of putting the hammer down, Ross went down.
02:04Brabeck saw and alerted the helicopter.
02:08I rolled up on Ross, I pushed the rescue button and then got out of there right away because
02:12just across the valley I saw the helicopter landing.
02:16Bike on the deck, branch on the deck.
02:19Dazed and confused, Ross' rally is over, and it couldn't have happened to a nicer guy.
02:24Touch scenes, Branchy, it won't be the same without you.
02:29And it wasn't only Ross, Bradley Cox crashed out too.
02:32For Honda this year, stage wins are like London buses, you wait for ages and then two come
02:38along at once.
02:39Today's triumph went to defending champion Ricky Brabeck, who excelled in the Dunes to
02:43win by 23 seconds.
02:45We'll keep fighting to the end, the times are unbelievably close, there's still a chance
02:50for podiums, so for now that's what I'm aiming for and we'll stay positive and we'll keep
02:55the riverside down.
02:56Brabeck became the second man to have won specials at the last three Dakars, the other
03:00is Adrian Van Beveren.
03:01His superb ride for second included over six minutes in bonuses.
03:07We had a lot of dunes at the end, I had to open the caps, try to be consistent and precise
03:12and yeah, it was good.
03:14And it's three in a row for Nacho Cornejo, unfortunately three thirds in a row.
03:18The Chilean must be wondering what he needs to do to trouble the top two on a special.
03:22With Ross Branch out, he's hero's only hope.
03:28Over 16 minutes of bonuses so far for Daniel Sanders, who was ninth today and after the
03:33KTM Aussie, it's Honda to the power of four.
03:35Chucky's lead comfortable, but by no means unassailable.
03:39Excluding the Crono, Rally 2 winners this year, Edgar Canett, Tobias Ebster.

03:48It's the toughest race in the world, I'm around P10, nothing to shame about.
03:53I'm not a factory rider, still a privateer, but I'm going to be there.
03:58Benji Mellor was the best in the original BiMotul, he now trails Emmanuel Jenes by 11

04:03Yeah, yeah, I'd say it was my best week at Dakar so far.
04:15It's actually crazy that we can be in this position.
04:18Yeah, that's why we had a clean sweep for week one.
04:27There's 12 guys in here that can go out and win on any given day, just in our camp.

04:34I drive now around 11 Dakar, the toughest one this one.
04:44We still have a lot of kilometres to go.
04:47It's going to be a close battle.
04:48I'm not excited for the dunes, but we'll see how it goes.
04:51Inas is going to push a lot, we will be there to support him.
04:55I need vengeance this year.
04:56So let's fight the second week, I am ready for it.

05:15Nasser Al-Attiyah started second and after 30km he had passed Seth Quintero on the road
05:20and he was in front.
05:22The Qatari needs to go flat out this week if he's to stand any chance of a sixth title.
05:31This was a nasty moment for Gerlain Chichéry.
05:33Other than a sore back, he and co-driver Alex Winok are fine.
05:37We started on this small step, we saw it coming, we braked, it didn't look important,
05:46it lifted us up and we went into the dunes, 3, 4, 5 dunes, that's it.
05:51Even when we were warning the other drivers behind us, several of them almost went flat out.
05:55He doesn't look good.
05:57No, he's not very good.
05:59Henk Lattegen held on to his overall lead on stage 6, 7th on the day, 6 minutes down.
06:10That Toyota Gazoo Hilux was almost entirely rebuilt on the rest day.
06:15Yazeed Al-Raji started the day 10 minutes down in second but chipped it down to 7, even
06:19if he had to repair a damaged tyre on the liaison with help from Saoud Varyawa.
06:24A roadside assistance policy is vital when you're driving, you just never know when something
06:28will go wrong with your car or bike.
06:30In the UK it's the AA, in the Netherlands the INVB.
06:33But at Dakar Dacia Sandriders this year, breakdown cover comes in the form of Cristina Gutierrez
06:37and Pablo Moreno.
06:38We have the car full of spare parts, we're also lucky that Pablo is a mechanic by profession
06:47and he's very fast.
06:48Well, you have to help as much as you can and it's a facet that we know because my
06:51real job is mechanical, so I'm grateful to be able to help the team and that we keep
06:57pushing the car so that it's on the podium.
06:59It's in the race.
07:01Let's get smaller now, smaller still, that's it, the Mini of Ferreira and Palmeiro, second
07:06today for the Portuguese pairing who lie ninth overall.
07:11But Toyota's grip on every stage is over, Guillaume de Mevius topped the podium but
07:15he wasn't certain he'd won.
07:16It was a good stage for us, it seems that we have won the stage.
07:23He won, he lost three minutes.

07:31It was a maxi day for Mini with Mevi and Joao.
07:34Lattigan holds on to his overall lead but 30 minutes cover the top four.
07:37It's a four-horse race and everything to play for.
07:40Victory in the trucks today went to Mitchell van den Brink, the 22-year-old took the honours
07:53for the first time since stage one, but only gained seven minutes on Martin Matic, who
07:58can afford to just control his rivals in week two, leading by an hour and 49.
08:05The Czech driver is on course for win number two.
08:10In the challenger class it's still Nicolas Cavigliasso and Valentino Pertegarini out
08:25in front overall.
08:26The Argentinian duo spent much of the day tête-à-tête with Gonzalo Guerrero and still
08:31have a handsome lead with six specials left.
08:33Can they become the first husband and wife duo to triumph at the Dakar?
08:37Disclaimer, doesn't include the classic.
08:41In the SSVs, Brock Hegerslieb does look insuperable, more than an hour ahead of Xavier De Soltre
08:55and Francisco Lopez-Contardo.
08:57Although Chaleco made it three wins out of four today, it's losing nearly three hours
09:01on the second special that did it for him.
09:11So, at the start of the second week, there's an hour and 49 minutes between the top two
09:16in trucks, an hour and seven minutes in T4s.
09:19The three motorbike categories each have 11 minutes separating the top two.
09:23In T3s it's 35 minutes, but the closest category at the moment is the cars.
09:27Seven minutes and 16 seconds, but no one is rolling over just yet.
09:34Same time, same place tomorrow, rally fans.
