અમદાવાદની સાબરમતી નદીના કાંઠે આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય પતંગ મહોત્સવ 2025નો શુભારંભ થયો છે. આ પતંગોત્સવમાં 47 દેશો અને ભારતના અન્ય 11 રાજ્યોમાંથી પતંગબાજો ભાગ લીધો છે.

00:00In Ahmedabad International Kite Flying Festival, Seema has come from Indonesia.

00:05And Seema's group is teaching people from all over the world how to make kites from leaves.

00:13So Seema, your group is teaching how to make a kite from the leaf.

00:19What kind of the leaf and how you are making such a leaf-based kite?

00:24Okay, so this is especially a very traditional old, thousand years old kite from Muna,

00:33where there's also a very old cave and found a very old artifact as well.

00:39This is called kagati and it's made of pineapple leaf.

00:43Well, you can make this, they can be made of actually multiple types of leaves.

00:50This one is made of pineapple leaves.

00:53Yeah, it's called kagati.

00:55It's called kagati. Seema, you have put a jaihin in your, it's a badge.

01:01You know what is jaihin?

01:03Not sure, I just saw someone give it to me.

01:07Okay, so this kite, you are flying in air also?

01:13Yes, we do, yes.

01:15So can you just give a commentary of how to make a kite from the leaf?

01:20So this is our team, he's the one who's actually from Muna.

01:25He's from Muna himself and he's the expert of doing these kagati kites.

01:30Yeah, so he's demonstrating exactly how to make it.

01:33So Seema, we are flying the kite on the 14th January, Uttarayan.

01:38Do you have any specific date or day where you are flying the kites?

01:42Yeah, so in Bali, we usually play kites in May, June, where the wind is at best.

01:49But we actually play kites all year round because basically we have good winds all year.

01:55Any similarity of your kites with India?

01:59Well, Balinese kites is very, well I think all over the world we have our own unique kites.

02:08And in Bali, we have three main kites called janggan, bebian and pacukan.

02:14It's different, but I think philosophically, as a lifestyle, I think we share very good similarities.

02:23Where we play it on a farm, during farming season, harvesting season.

02:30Yeah, it's all for joyful lifestyle.

02:34So in Indonesia, the leaves of pineapples are used to make kites.

02:42And here, it's being demonstrated.

02:45And you see here, Ireland, Israel, Italy, Greece, Japan, and European and Asian countries,

02:51together they make leaf kites.

02:56The leaves of pineapples are used to make these kites.

03:02And it's said that this tradition is 2000 years old.

03:06And it's done in all the countries of Indonesia.

03:10And it's a very interesting experience that the leaves of the kites will fly in the sky of Ahmedabad.
