વર્ષ - 2025માં યોજાયેલો 45મો સપ્તક સંગીત મહોત્સવમાં આંતરરાષ્ટ્રીય ખ્યાતિ પ્રાપ્ત આર્કિટેક્ટ માર્ક ડીલે સપ્તકના શ્રોતા તરીકે આવ્યા હતા.

00:00Mr. Mark, you've been to India for the Saptak,

00:12and how you find Saptak up to?

00:15I think it's a wonderful festival with many, many artists,

00:20and it's interesting to see all the different ways

00:23of interpreting classical Indian music.

00:27This is really fantastic, vocal, instrumental,

00:31and all kind of groups, small groups.

00:34Also, I realize actually coming to Saptak the importance

00:38of the tabla players, that there is a lot of specialists

00:43of tabla in this area, and also at Saptak,

00:48there is a concentration on very different qualities

00:51of tabla players, so it's really excellent.

00:55So, Mark Julley, you are the regular visitor of the Saptak.

00:58Which artists impress you the most?

01:02Well, last night we saw Adi Prasad Shosaria, or Shorasia.

01:07It's difficult to pronounce for me.

01:09But, however, it's a very old master whom I liked very much,

01:14and it was impressive to see him last night.

01:18Otherwise, I like many artists.

01:20I like, it's difficult to remember the names,

01:22because for us it's complicated, you know, names in Indian.

01:28But I like, there's one woman I like very much,

01:32is Panomita Banerjee, who is a playing of harmonium.

01:45across Europe and France in particular?

01:47Actually, I knew Saptak from different France,

01:51who came already to Saptak in the previous years.

01:58Also, I very often go to the Darbar Festival in London,

02:03and even in a Darbar Festival in London, they talk about Saptak,

02:06which is also a very international

02:09and renowned festival for us in, that we know in Europe.

02:18Which Kalak you want to see in 2025 the most?

02:24Which artist you want to see in 2025?

02:28We, actually, we went to see a very famous artist also in France,

02:33actually in London, it's Kaushiki Chakraborty,

02:37who is the daughter of Adjoi Chakraborty,

02:41whom we listened also during this festival.

02:44So, we listened to her.

02:46But also, myself, I like very much Sita.

02:50So, I like, for me, the Sita is the most catching type

02:56of expression of classical Indian music,

02:58and also the Veena, I think is really beautiful.

03:02India has a long legacy of classical music.

03:05Yes.

03:07So, how the France, you are coming from France,

03:08how the France music, any comparison?

03:13I must say that I also listen to French, I mean,

03:18European classical music, I mean, occidental, let's say.

03:22But, however, I also, I must tell you that I lived in Japan.

03:26And, in fact, it's interesting to see

03:29that the Indian music is like a sort of a hinge.

03:32It's in the middle between Europe and Asia.

03:35And it seems that we have sources of Indian music that come

03:41out in the Western culture, but also in the Eastern culture.

03:44When I even listen to some music in Japan,

03:49I can see also some relation.

03:51Also, I like even the Middle Eastern music,

03:53like Persian music.

03:55So, I think Indian music also make a link

03:59to many different cultures.

04:00And also, it's so interesting because it's so ancient,

04:04you know, that's what I like.

04:05So, how the Saptak is enriching you?

04:08Well, I must say also that I met a lot of very nice people here.

04:13Everybody is very welcoming.

04:15I was introduced to Saptak also by one member of the family, Mehta.

04:23You know, Nihar Mehta, and I met also Krishna Shah Mehta.

04:29They also introduced me to what is happening at Saptak.

04:35And they opened us also to the life in Ahmedabad, in Gujarat.

04:40So, from Gujarat also, we understand better India.

04:44So, this is the Saptak, which provide the opportunity

04:47to understand the Gujarat and India to the foreign people.
