Visually impaired children at Luton school show how they are supported

Pupils with visual impairments from Chantry Primary Academy have explained how they are being supported with their studies and independence in a special video. Teacher, Kate Collings, got her students to show their classrooms and equipment to help them navigate both school life and the world around them. Video: Chantry Primary Academy

00:08of a visual impaired pupil in Chantry Primary Academy School. We love it in the VI provision

00:16because we get to go on lots of trips and we have lots of staff to support us. Come

00:22on, let us show you. Come on, join our tour. I am playing with the lights in the tent.

00:45I am practising my braille and I think it is good for people with a visual impairment

00:50or that are completely blind because you are learning a new skill to read with your

00:57fingers. I am practising my braille. Braille is good for me because if something happens

01:04to my eyes or if I cannot read something, it helps me to read it. I am using an iPad

01:24Pro. It helps me in my lessons. When I am finished, I can print it out and stick it

01:30in my book. I am sorting the numbers and shapes on the tap to our table. I am looking

01:44at the letters on the light panel and it is good because it is bright. I love the light

01:57I am using my magnifier to read. It is good because I can see it. I like to use my magnifier

02:06because it helps me see the words. I do touch typing because it makes sure I do not look

02:18down at the keys and it helps me in all lessons. I like touch typing because I do not need

02:30to look at the keys when I am typing. So Clarissa, the pen is here, so on the page can you feel

02:37one of the pom-poms? So then put the pen next to that.

02:44Fact number 9. World Gorilla Day is celebrated every year on September 24th.
