Is the ground game the way the Cowboys return to the playoffs?

When you think of the 2024 Cowboys offense, the best part of it was probably the running game with Rico Dowdle and his breakout season. Is a further emphasis on the ground game the formula to getting the Cowboys back to postseason glory? GBag discusses if they need to pivot from pass heavy to run heavy in the video above.

00:23He's got the top six teams in rush yards, all made the playoffs for the first time in

00:29NFL history, that being Baltimore, Philadelphia, Washington, Green Bay, Tampa Bay, and Detroit.

00:36So almost half the playoff teams, the top six rushing teams in the league.

00:40That's not just a coincidence, is it?

00:43I think the league has made it a point to stop the big plays in the passing game, and

00:48maybe the pendulum swung a little bit too far, creating a hell of an opportunity if

00:53you have what it takes to run the ball.

00:55It was a pretty big advantage.

00:59That's what happened.

01:00I think the key now is figuring out, is that going to continue to be the case for the foreseeable

01:08If you look at it, Buffalo is on a heck of a streak right now for not allowing a pass

01:13of over 20 yards, air yards, like 40 straight games that they've been on.

01:18I think the Packers-

01:2220 plus air yards, yeah.

01:23They've been on quite a streak.

01:25I believe it's 40 games.

01:26I think I saw that.

01:27I think the Packers are second when it comes to that, so it's a pretty significant thing

01:31considering how teams make big plays in the passing game nowadays.

01:37Teams are having to try and figure out other ways to move the football, and maybe for some

01:41of these-

01:42I think this goes back, too, to the offensive lines getting bigger.

01:48Maybe your defensive lines being smaller, and people are going to that.

01:53I think it's just a little bit of an easier way for them to get some yards and then kind

01:57of get their passing game going once they're staying ahead of the chains.
