00:00In many countries where we've got the Indian diaspora, we want to alleviate poverty.
00:07We want to uplift people from poverty and to make them have a better living.
00:13And we want to make the world a sustainable world.
00:16So for many, many years we've been trying to focus on development,
00:21forgetting about that when we make a development, it has to be sustainable.
00:27And I think it has been a golden opportunity this afternoon to talk about this.
00:32But also, as I mentioned, it's not only good to talk,
00:36it's very important to bring concrete actions.
00:39So what I am expecting as takeaways is that whatever we have discussed,
00:44we have been able to meet a number of important ministers.
00:48I was also very impressed by your foreign affairs minister, Dr. Jayashankar,
00:55a great person.
00:57We've been able to meet your minister of information technology and telecommunication.
01:03And tomorrow I'm having a meeting with your minister of education.
01:07So for me, when I meet all these ministers,
01:10I've been meeting a number of other people from Malaysia, from Trinidad, from Oman.
01:19So I want to concretize all these discussions.
01:24It should not remain as a theoretical discussion.
01:29It will be important to develop concrete actions.
01:33And especially I think India has a lot to offer.
01:38So it has to be a win-win situation.
01:41You see, in the past, what I've seen, that very often some of the developed countries,
01:48they have been using this argument of development in a way to exploit other countries.
01:56Me, as a new minister in my country, I want people to be equitable.
02:03So it has to be a collaboration on equal footing,
02:08even if we can be small in size, small in terms of wealth.
02:14But then all countries have to be placed on equal footing.
02:19And I think India can be, in a way, a role model.
02:23We should not follow the previous models of development.
02:29And I think India has a lot to win if it plays its role and tries to have a sort of equitable collaboration.
02:40This is what personally I wish as a new minister in my country.
02:45Your Excellency, the last question would be, you had a meeting with S.J. Shankar, which you called it very fruitful.
02:52You also met the delegation from Malaysia.
02:55How was the meeting?
02:57I think we raised a number of questions.
02:59For example, we've been this afternoon talking about, for example, about greening the economy.
03:06And you know many of the investments coming from the Indian diaspora were being routed through Mauritius.
03:12And fortunately, over the past 10 years, we have been diluting this treaty.
03:18And other countries are having a sort of edges on Mauritius.
03:24I mentioned to the minister that we don't want any favor.
03:29At least we want to be on a level playing field.
03:32And I think the minister has responded positively.
03:36He will do his level best to place Mauritius on a sort of level playing field.
03:40That's number one.
03:42We have also been asking your minister of foreign affairs to help us in terms of higher education.
03:50As you know, India is a great leader in the field of higher education.
03:54And he has responded positively.
03:57We'll talk to the minister.
03:59I will be talking to your minister of education.
04:02We have also been asking help for IT and AI.
04:05And as you know, as I mentioned this afternoon, Mauritius is a small dot in the Indian Ocean.
04:11I fully concur, agree, with a very small population.
04:14But at the same time, we are a gateway to Africa.
04:17And you know Africa is a continent of tomorrow.
04:20And when we talk about the development of Africa here also, I will always be pressing for equitable development.
04:28We should see Africa as a land of opportunity, yes.
04:32But we also have to help our African brothers.
04:36Because as I mentioned, Mauritius is in a way a small Africa, a small India.
04:41And we have borrowed a lot also from the Europeans.
04:44We've learned a lot of positive things from the Europeans.
04:47So we are a sort of melting pot in Mauritius.
04:50And we'd like to play that sort of leading role as a small nation, a small country.
04:55But with a positive mind to develop the world.
