00:18Tabla is such a musical instrument which is the most popular percussion instrument of the world.

00:32From dhrupad dhamar music, khayal music to bollywood music, jazz music.

00:39It blends with all of them.

00:42It has a wide range.

00:46Actually, when khayal music started with dhrupad dhamar music,

00:53tabla was born and tabla came later.

01:00When khayal music was becoming popular,

01:03tabla was created to accompany it.

01:09And that also started becoming popular.

01:11There are six gharanas in gayan, and there are six gharanas in tabla.

01:20It has a long tradition.

01:22It has been created by thousands of people.

01:28Ramdas ji, which gharana do you belong to?

01:32My lineage is from Furukhabad gharana.

01:35My guruji is Pandit Tal Yogi Suresh Trivalkar ji.

01:39His guruji is Pandit Pandarinath Nageshkar ji.

01:42And his guruji is Ustad Amir Hussain Khan sahib.

01:45Who was the caliph of Furukhabad gharana.

01:48So my lineage is from Furukhabad gharana.

01:51But these days, all tabla players play from different gharanas.

01:56I also play from different gharanas.

01:58Ustad ji, we had the biggest loss in 2024

02:01due to Zakir Hussain's death.

02:03What was the style of his tabla player?

02:06And what impact does he have on you?

02:10Ustad Zakir Hussain has no impact on any tabla player.

02:16There is no one like him.

02:18We can say that,

02:21like we say BC and AD,

02:25before Zakir Hussain and after Zakir Hussain.

02:29We can write history of tabla in two periods.

02:34What is the reason for that?

02:36Because Zakir bhai made tabla so popular.

02:41And not only in India, he made tabla popular all over the world.

02:45He played tabla with musicians from all over the world.

02:50And he spread tabla all over the world.

02:53And he had a unique musicality in playing tabla.

02:59It was a unique style.

03:00No one had played before him.

03:02He brought a revolution in tabla.

03:08And the tabla that is being played now,

03:11cannot be played without the influence of Zakir bhai.

03:14It is such a big contribution of Zakir bhai.

03:18Zakir Hussain has done a great job.

03:20He is a great Ustad.

03:21He has given great respect to all the Ustads.

03:25He is a new generation.

03:31Actually, the effect of Zakir bhai was that

03:45most of the students are from tabla.

03:48The attraction that he created to learn tabla,

04:10the development and progress in tabla

04:13in the last 30-40 years,

04:16is probably the same in any other genre of music.

04:21Like singing or instrumental music.

04:26The progress in tabla,

04:28the new tabla players,

04:31the new artists are coming,

04:34they have probably come from other places.

04:38So, this is a big contribution of Zakir bhai.

04:41Because of him, the progress of tabla is progressing.

04:46Because of him, and of course,

04:48his contemporary tabla players,

04:51like my guruji,

04:53Pandit Swapan Choudhary,

04:55Pandit Anindo Chatterjee,

04:57Pandit Kumar Bose,

04:58these five Pandavas,

05:00of that generation,

05:02because of them, all this is happening.

05:04So, there are five Pandavas in the tabla generation,

05:07and the craze for tabla is increasing day by day.

05:11And Zakir Hussain has laid a foundation

05:13for our youth,

05:15to take tabla, Indian culture and music forward.
