Ahead of the 2025 Delhi Assembly Election, Brut visits a colony near the Ghazipur landfill, one of the city’s biggest dumps, to understand the everyday struggles and challenges the residents face.

00:00The Gazipur landfill, situated on the eastern outskirts of Delhi, was established in 1984
00:25to manage the city's growing waste and the city's increasing waste management needs.
00:30It has become one of India's largest landfill sites.
00:33Originally designed to hold waste up to a height of 20 metres, it has far exceeded this
00:39limit, now towering over 65 metres.
00:44We visit Mulla Colony, a neighbourhood located near the landfill, to hear from the residents
00:50about their struggle with living conditions and the health challenges they face.
01:20The landfill was located strategically to provide access to Delhi's eastern districts.
01:42Most of the waste brought here originates from East Delhi, Shadra and parts of Central

01:48Today, approximately 2,500 tonnes of garbage are dumped, further adding to its size.
