00:06out there. You must be pleased with today and generally how it's gone so far?

00:09Yeah, of course I'm delighted with it. Regardless of the results, the lads have had the right

00:14go to take on the information. I think you can see there were times where we were really

00:18good playing some good football and there were times where we got it wrong and there

00:22was an anxiety within it and we created our own problems. Maidenhead are a very tough

00:27nut to crack and Dev does a great job there. We're delighted to pick up the points because

00:34even with 10 men they never let us settle and they kept putting it in our box and asking

00:38questions of us.

00:39Obviously you've come in to bring your style of play and you can really see that coming

00:43out at times there. Obviously that's going to keep happening as you keep working with

00:47the players.

00:48Yeah, and I'm sure there will be times where we don't get it right and it's them moments

00:53like today where I challenged them at half-time and said find out about yourself. You've gone

00:58into your shell a little bit, you've stopped being brave and the conditions were tough

01:03so I was asking them to do it in tough conditions but I thought second half they did. As a group

01:07they came out and they kept trying to play the football and when they did it right they

01:11caused Maidenhead problems and we got our goals.

01:14I'd say a push on in that second half and deservedly went on and won the game. In that

01:18first half Rhys Smith had caused quite a few problems, was there anything discussed? Because

01:22in the second half you managed to keep him a lot quieter.

01:24No, we just talked about, we said we felt that we were leaving our wide areas isolated

01:28a little bit and challenged our front wide men to take pride in the fact that no-one

01:36hurts us down their side of the pitch, double up with their full-back, cut off passing lines.

01:40If he comes inside I want midfielders shuffling across to not let him have the space to come

01:44inside and shoot but he's a good player and when you've got good players you have to work

01:48together to try and nullify it. Again, better second half than doing it but obviously we

01:55had to ride our luck a little bit at times.

01:57So you put the challenge to the players at half-time and then you go on in the second

02:01half and the key moment obviously Harry winning the penalty and then he steps up and sticks

02:06it away in the red card and then obviously a good composure from him after winning it.

02:12Yeah of course but we still, even against ten men, we still got things wrong and credit

02:16to Maidenhead, they didn't make it easy for us but if we'd have been a little bit more

02:20composed we could have controlled it from that moment on and we didn't and we caused

02:24our own problems and I think the players were a little bit gung-ho still trying to go and

02:28get a third and we ended up having to defend for our lives at times.

02:32So we're not going to be perfect, we take what's come, we're delighted with the seven

02:38points. We've got a threat going forward now, I feel like we can get our teams but we need

02:44to tidy up the stuff without the ball so it's all part of the process we're working on.

02:49I guess obviously against the ten ideally you would have liked to keep the ball a bit

02:54more maybe?

02:55Yeah, the opportunity to present themselves when it's on to go and hurt them but we were

02:58getting in with five minutes to go rather than just keep it down there. We were trying

03:02to score again and score again and then it was like a tennis match and that's naivety,

03:07that little bit of composure to see the game out but I can't have everything at the moment.

03:12We've got things wrong, we've got things right but we've managed to pick up some results

03:16during that process and we've got some tough games coming up, we know that, so there'll

03:21be some defeats and there'll be some performances that we need to bounce back from I'm sure

03:27but if we can keep a tight-knit group and keep on working towards an end goal I'm hopeful

03:32we'll get there.

03:33And Ian Young has obviously hit the ground running coming back and another two goals

03:37for him today, great from him, what he's doing.

03:41Yeah, absolutely but again the team needed to create moments where Ine can be there and

03:46score, it's Simon's job to create a way of getting to the final third, getting bodies

03:52in there, getting people committing to it, taking risks and then whoever scores, scores

03:57and obviously Ine's going to be that focal point or the centre forward in that system

04:02will be the focal point at the moment.

04:04Plenty of impressive performances across the team really, Dale Bonman good again, Frank

04:09Vincent good, plenty of confidence in the team as you're building it really?

04:13Yeah we're trying to and I'm trying to do no-blame culture so that they trust me and

04:17the last thing I can do is have a go at them when they do give it away otherwise they'll

04:20lose trust in me so we'll try and keep getting better and we'll try and keep the atmosphere

04:28where they want it to be so that they can go and do it and hopefully we can pick up

04:33some more wins but we know that there's going to be some tougher games and some more difficult

04:38games where we might get beat and we need to be on the platform so we've got to be ready

04:41for everything.

04:42But obviously the results obviously boost confidence and then obviously give you that

04:45platform to just carry on now and keep going?

04:48Hopefully, hopefully, we've got two cup games now and some of the other players will get

04:51an opportunity in them so we need to freshen up because Wednesday, Saturday, Tuesday, Saturday

04:56is a really tough schedule so we need to make sure that we work it, try and win the games

05:01and go into the Oval with the right freshness in the group.

05:05So games are coming thick and fast now, obviously Radcliffe and the Trophy on Saturday, then

05:09Derby in the National Cup on Tuesday and obviously the Oval priority but obviously you will attack

05:15those cup games with the players?

05:17We need to try and stick with that habit and keep doing what needs to be done to win games

05:22for them.

05:23And obviously happy with the results but obviously always looking to see if there's anyone out

05:27there to come in?

05:28Obviously I know resources are what they are.

05:32We need to, everything will be at a balance but of course we're always looking to see

05:35if we can improve on what positions we might need.

05:37We need competition for places, we need people to be on their toes, all of them things so

05:43Jodie will lead that and me and Simon will help and we'll look at all of them options.

05:49And just good to send the home fans home at the start of the year with three points?

05:52Yeah and to be fair, anyone that turned up for today's game in this weather deserves

05:56to have a smile on their face so hopefully they have and the boys had a real go today

06:00in tough conditions and obviously delighted with what they've done.
