00:00Malikong Rice Terraces is almost ready to be returned to its former glory days

00:05when the typhoons destroyed it.

00:07This is Valerie Jane Taguba of PIA Cordillera with the national news.

00:14Activities for the restoration of Malikong Rice Terraces in Bontoc Mountain Province have already started.

00:21This includes the Cultural Heritage Awareness Workshop

00:24for farmers who are considered cultural practitioners

00:29to explain to them the purpose of the project

00:33and their role in preserving rice terraces.

00:36It is important for people to come here

00:41because they are holders of important knowledge on our ritual and our culture.

00:49First, the National Commission for Culture and the Arts approved a P5.5 million fund

00:56for the rehabilitation of the Malikong Rice Terraces

01:00that was destroyed by Hurricane Rosita in 2018

01:05and Hurricane Egay in 2023.

01:07In restoration efforts, farmers are using

01:11the traditional stone wall construction skills

01:14that have been passed down for generations.

01:16Farmers are encouraging their supporters here.

01:20We are committed to the time and effort

01:23to preserve this privilege that we have.

01:28Malikong Rice Terraces was declared by the NCCA

01:33as a National Cultural Treasure.

01:35Traditional Farshang Heirloom Rice is still the main crop of the community.

01:41Malikong Rice Terraces is one of the tourist attractions here in Bontoc

01:46where visitors are encouraged to learn about

01:50the rich culture and agricultural practices here.
